Permalinks with free account?

  • Unknown's avatar

I can’t figure out how to set up permalinks on my free account. Do I need to go the web-hosting route in order to use them?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, no option for permalinks in WordPress.com, yet! I would say maybe send feedback requesting that it might be added, and wait a bit. A lot of items that have been requested via feedback have been added over the last few weeks.

If you feel the need to tweak you weblog to the max and soon, then yes you should think about getting a web host account and downloading the full application from WordPress.org

    Cheers!

I just click the title of the post and that serves as my permalink if I want to send it to someone.

Hello. Permalinks don’t work for my blog: ranchobolado.wordpress.com

Is it because the feature doesn’t exist, as stated above?

The link below indicates that it might be working:

    Thank you.

Also, when I click on a “posted in” category associated with a post (not in the sidebar list), it takes me to a page that seems like a dead-end; it shows the category in a large font, and it has balloons.

I was hoping to get exactly the same results that I would get when I click on a category in the sidebar.

Um, Permalinks do work for your blog. Permalinks are the links to each post that, in your case, include the title of the post. For example, this is a permalink. and it’s a “Permanent link” to your post. You’re looking at the Global Cartegory links and those are tied across all of the blogs here at WordPress.com.

    Hi drmike:

    Thanks for your fast reply.

For me, for some reason, permalinks don’t work.

When I click on the title of any post (even the link included in your reply above), I see:

“Sorry, no posts matched your criteria.”

With the same exact posting, if I apply a different Theme, I’ll get a different error, like “404 not found” or “It seems what you are looking for isn’t here”

    Thanks.

    OK, that’s a different problem. I understand now. :)

Send in a feedback with the issue and a staff member will take a look at the issue for you.

    I understand what is happening:

I sent this to feedback; perhaps it might be useful for others who are considering historical blogging:

I understand why my permalinks and comments are disabled in my blog. It’s because I have edited all of my timestamps to the 1800’s, which is why they post in the correct chronological order.

That’s why I chose WordPress.com — because it handles the timestamps so well.

But it appears that the permalink/comments code is dependent on timestamps being after around December 31, 1969 or so.

  • Unknown's avatar

I wonder if it’s my power as an end-user to repair the timestamps so they work both in the 1800’s, and for permalinks and tags.

Ideally, it would be a batch operation, rather than editing more than 100 posts.

I believe you will find this has been discussed more than once on the forum in recent times. Please check the FAQ and review what’s there. I’m positive that a batch operation is not available to you on wordpress.com and that a manual change of each one as tedious as it is will be the only “fix” vailable to you. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but eh, don’t shoot the messenger, read the FAQ’s, okay?
