Permanent post on front page only?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’m trying to keep a permanent post on my front page, only. The “Home” page doesn’t show for “static page” input. My Posts page works fine, but it’s a duplicate of the front page which insists on picking up the newer post, anyway. What am I doing wrong? I wanted the front page as an introduction to the blog. I’m having no trouble with any other pages. I’m using the “Pilcrow” theme. HELP? Thank you.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I would transfer that post over to a page (and then delete the post) and then make that page a static home page for your site and then also create a “blog” page for your posts. That is the cleanest and easiest way to do it and that way the post will not show on the front page, and in the blog page as well.

    I’m needing to do the exact same thing, but I’m technologically challenged. Sacredpath, I wonder if you could give me a bit more of a step-by-step instruction? For example, I’m not sure what you mean by making a page a static home page… Thank you!

    What’s important is:
    (1) a clear comprehension of the differences between pages and posts > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
    (2) a clear comprehension of the fact that here is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page.

    Static home page > create two pages, one for the static home page and one that will be a running page for posts > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

    Go here > Settings > reading and look for this, make your selections and then click “save changes”

    You can ‘Stick’ that post to home page. Edit the post >> Click on Visibility (near ‘Update’ option) >>Make this post Sticky.

    @wpgaurav
    That’s true but in the case of this member who is new and struggling to learn how to use WordPress.com and who has created pages already I chose not to complicate the situation.

    Oh Okay! :-) I thought stickying the post would be easier than changing the post into page and then as front-page.

    @wpgaurav, they want only that post on the main page, and they don’t want it to appear in the normal list of posts. I thought of the sticky option as well, and it would sort of work, but I think the static front page would be a better solution, Since they only want that one post on the main page, the site would have to be set to show only one post per page and that is a little bothersome for visitors.
