permanently deleted image still live??

Why does a deleted image still appear live on the web? It was deleted a couple of weeks ago from the media library and deleted permanently.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The blog is not saraysounds.wordpress.com. It is on some one else’s blog but it didn’t give me the option to put that when writing the question

Where on the Web does it appear? It won’t disappear immediately from search results in Google images or the like. If it was copied or downloaded by another, then uploaded elsewhere it may appear indefinitely.

it was on a wordpress blog and they deleted it off the media library permanently but when I go directly to the image url it is still there . I used google web to remove link and it isn’t live apparently, so I just wondered why it is still visible several weeks after being deleted? thanks

“They” deleted it, or you deleted it?
I presume you’re referring to a Google cache, which won’t immediately be removed when the image is deleted from your website. Google may still have a separate attachment page for the image previously linked to your site, but if you click on the image or a link to your site provided at Google, it should fail with an error message (404). Same with other search engines which may have cached the image linking it to your site.

I don’t know what “Google web” is.

When I’ve deleted an image and still found the image at Google images actively linked to my site weeks later, it’s typically been due to the fact that I had another instance of the image in my media files, and in a post gallery, which I’d forgotten about. It doesn’t have to be visible on the website.

the person who owns the blog deleted it permanently from the media library. He actually deleted everything in the folder. I requested a removal of the url from google in webmaster tools and it accepted saying that it has been removed. But when I click on the image link it is still live. All the other pages that have been removed from google with images aren’t visible and they are a lot newer than the one that is still live.

That means your friend has a WordPress.ORG installed blog and is not hosted here at WordPress.COM – you need to ask for help at WordPress.ORG since this forum is only for sites hosted here at WordPress.COM
-
-
then we need the URL that you need help with – because at WordPress.COM there is NO access to folders at all – no FTP access which is needed to delete folder contents
-
-
is there anyway to send the link privately so it doesn’t come up with this conversation in search engines?
-
after all the whole point of this is to get rid of the url, not make it more visible by posting it on a public forum
-
I flagged this for the staff – they can email you at the address of record for your account – they work requests from oldest to newest

Hi @helenbarrull,
I’ve reached out privately via email. Could you pass along the link there?
Just a note, I’ll be closing this thread to prevent confusion. Just reply back to the email with any additional questions!
