Permanently removing file/picture

This is the result of clicking the link your provided:
404 — File not found. It has been deleted ie. permanently removed.
-
If you wish you can Check your Media Library and delete the image it it’s appearing there.
-
That is not the actual functional link to the image your are asking about is it.
http://etvisvitae.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/xxxxxx.jpgxxxxxjpg ???!!!
If you have deleted it from your media library, then people now finding the image in searches are almost certainly seeing cached versions of it. When Google (or other) looked at your site, it found that picture and saved (cached) it to be available to searches. After some time, Google will go through your site again and eventually the picture will disappear from searches.
At least your average web surfer like me won’t find it. I don’t know how long that will take, though.
-
We do need the EXACT link, not a generic one, in order to determine if the deletion has been successful.

@Tess
I’m so glad you caught that. After deletion of the image (correct URL) is confirmed and the URL produces a 404 (page not found) it can take 3 months or longer before it disappears from Google’s cache unless the URL Removal Tool is employed. If it is then that time frame can be shortened > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2008/03/21/how-to-remove-data-from-googles-cache/ -
exactly. http…xxxxxxjpeg will always return a 404 not found: not a real link.
I was assuming, as the OP noted, that he/she had deleted it from the media library so the question is actually about why the picture is still appearing.
And how long before it is gone from the net. -
timethief, more duets!
My answer above was meant to reply to raincoaster.
3 months? could be. don’t know.
