You don’t have a link to a WordPress.COM blog – but in the off chance you are in the right forum – deleting a blog or the content of a blog does not remove the content from Google and other search engines – and if you really delete the blog you can’t clear the Google cache – once a search engine gets content it is there mostly forever in some form or another – in some distant future Google will loose interest in the old content and it will become obscure.

If you want to help the content go away from Google – delete the content of the blog but not the blog – then verify the blog with the search engines and ask them to remove the content that returns 404 page not found errors – keep in mind that as soon as you delete the site that option goes away.

Check your spam filter for the email –

    Thanks auxclass. This is worrying.

I think I moved the particular article to trash and the. Selected permanently delete. Can I get it back so I can edit the actually blog post?

    Thanks for your help.

If you moved something to Trash then did something like “empty trash” or “delete forever” it should be gone from your site – if you remember the title of the article you can try finding it on a search engine like Google and get a copy from their cache – I find that searching on the title in quotes means you sift through less junk to find your Post.

Double check the Trash – I forget the exact steps but it can be quite hard at times to delete things permanently here.

Thanks again- you say in the post above that I need to request them to remove 404 error messages.

By them, do you mean WordPress or Google?

Will this help prevent the post being viewed by everyone?

If I need to request from WordPress, can you provide instructions?

Thanks so much for all your help.

You need to register with Google web master tools and other search engines – then you can request a Page or Post to be removed from their cache – not perfect but helps – you will make all the requests to the search engines.

The Post can be viewed by anyone that cares to search for it until the search engines delete it from their cache –

one caution – some search engines never seem to forget.

…there’s also the “way back machine” to consider. If they’ve archived your work you can ask them to remove the posts. It’s a good idea, if you don’t find anything of yours there right away, to check back in a few months. It can take a little time before your material shows up.

    @ali415
Do listen to auxclass and do NOT delete the site. If you delete the site then you can’t verify ownership of it and you cannot use the URL removal tool.
    verify ownership first > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

Do not assume that if you request page removals due to “404’s” that Google will accomodate you quickly– it’s at their discretion.

Yahoo does not appear to clear their caches frequently if at all. At least if they do I have never detected it. Bing and Google seem to clear their caches every 3 – 6 months or so but it varies.

As far as I’m aware, Yahoo China keeps things forever, which means it’s always somewhere in Yahoo. They still have my PRIVATE blog that died in 2004.
