Permission to reblog
-
I keep learning on this topic. Still wish WP would add the feature to disable reblog the way a blogger can disable comments and pings.
-
@justjennifer 300 words?! Some of my posts are only 100 or less, that means my entire post could be reblogged. That is so wrong.
-
@ifmomsaysok- If you read my post on wpcommaven or the forum post that metan1 linked to, then you’ll know that the new Reblog is still a work in progress. Staff have answered that Reblog length is not yet fixed: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/now-you-can-reblog-the-whole-article-of-other-bloggers-i-hope-this-is-a-bug?replies=15#post-1645457
You have turned off the Reblog option on your site, so again, at the moment the only people able to reblog anything from your site are your Followers.
-
Thanks @justjennifer… all I can do anyway is wait it out. I still think WP is a great blogging platform, I just wish I had more control over when and if my content is reblogged.
-
Several bloggers have re-blogged the entire text of my posts, much longer than 300 words. I’ve sent emails kindly requesting to remove the post, to no avail. Not sure I want to file a formal DCMA complaint for each and every one of them.
WordPress: PLEASE fix this. Give the creator control.

Sorry – that is NOT Reblog, that is theft and sorry to say, they know exactly what they are doing (stealing your content for their site) – DMCA is your only real option. For those fine folks, people here that help in the forum like @timethief & @raincoaster got straight to DMCA. Reason does not seem to work with copy the whole post slime,
-
300 words is far too long, it should just be 10% of a post, so if it’s only 100 words, only 10 words can be reblogged.
And only max of 1 image should be allowed in a reblog (which the original post author should be able to set in the same way as a feature image, but have the choice of it not being the feature image).
-
Folks please see here for what I have suggested and support me if you agree > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-feature-automatically-enter-a-copyright-notice-into-every-published-post?replies=7
Then click this tag https://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/reblogging to find the other threads on this issue.
-
@timethief I saw your suggestion over here (too many threads on this topic!) and I love it, I’ll certainly support it.
Also, just saw that Staff wrote on that thread that:
Still working on this, but as of a few minutes ago, nothing after the “more” tag is being included in the reblogged content.
So I’m thrilled! It’s not the perfect solution but since I do use the more tag on all my posts, it works for me :)
-
If that is the case for using the <more> tag, does that also apply to themes such as Expound, Bushwick and Columnist, that automatically truncate posts? Do I still have to do that myself, or is it done for me by the theme default? All of this is so confusing.
-
@ifmomsaysok- themes that automatically truncate the posts on the front page may not actually be using the “more” tag to do it, but perhaps that comment should be posted in this thread instead? https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/now-you-can-reblog-the-whole-article-of-other-bloggers-i-hope-this-is-a-bug?replies=15#post-1645457

With all the following discussion, I forgot to add that I also support the idea of requiring permission/approval from the original poster prior to a Reblog appearing on the reblogger’s website.
-
I put a text widget on my site stating permission is required to reblog. Also, on a few of my personal essays, I put an italicized note at the end of the post stating “Do not reblog this post.” I realize people like the recognition of reblog and want their stuff out there, but I don’t feel that way. I blog for me first and want control over my personal material.

Me too.
