Persistent “Checking your browser” loop on WordPress login page in Vivaldi

  Over the past few days, I’ve encountered a persistent issue when trying to access the WordPress login page (https://wordpress.com/log-in/) using the Vivaldi browser. Instead of loading the login interface, the page displays:

  Checking your browser This will only take a few seconds…

  However, the page refreshes every few seconds and remains stuck in this loop indefinitely. This behavior began approximately 2–3 days ago and did not occur previously.

  Here’s what I’ve observed and attempted:

  • Browser-specific behavior:
    • Firefox loads the login page normally after briefly showing the “Checking your browser” message.
    • Vivaldi consistently loops on the verification screen.
  • Troubleshooting steps taken:
    • Cleared all cookies and reset browser network settings to default.
    • Tried multiple User Agent settings (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) — no improvement.
    • Confirmed third-party cookies are enabled (except in incognito mode).
    • Disabled tracker blocking and ad blocker.
    • No extensions are installed.
    • Hardware acceleration is turned off.
  • Interesting workaround behavior:
    • Logging in via the Vivaldi Guest Profile or Incognito Mode works reliably.
    • Creating a new Vivaldi profile allows login once, but the issue returns on subsequent attempts.

  Given the timing and behavior, I’m wondering if there have been recent changes to WordPress’s browser verification system or bot protection protocols that might be affecting Vivaldi compatibility.

  Same problem on Google Chrome on Ubuntu 25.10. I solved it by switching to Edge or Firefox on Ubuntu 25.10,Google Chrome on Linux Mint 22.2 or Chrome on Widows 11

  A workaround has been found that works for Vivaldi 7.6 and possibly other Blink based browsers such as Chrome. See https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/867565
