Person clicks Like and is asked to create and account or signup?

  A friend clicked “Like” on one of my posts and asked me this:
  WHY DOES WORDPRESS TRY TO GET US (me) to create an account. Or sign in. In order to “like” the article??
  What do I tell him?

  The “Like” function is available only to logged in WordPress.com members.
