personal details

When I first set up my site I was going to pay for the £15 domine name and was also being asked if I wanted to pay £7 to protect my privecy, I then changed my mindand decided to have the free site instead. But this means I have not payed the £7 to protect the privecy of my details, does this mean these will be public, like my phone number and adress? As I really don’t want this to be public but don’t know how to change if it is.

    Thanks, Gemma

  • Hi there,

When you register a domain, you are required to provide contact information, and that contact information is stored in a public database unless you pay extra for private registration. It works this way no matter where you register a domain – not just on WordPress.com.

However, as you did not actually register a domain your contact information was never added to that database. If you use a free WordPress.com URL we don’t need your contact information, so there is also no need for private registration. Even if you had already added your details to register the domain, because you didn’t complete the registration, your details were never saved.

If you’ve added any contact details to your WordPress.com/Gravatar profile (it doesn’t look like you have), you also have the ability to delete it.

Let me know if you have any more questions about this.
