personal domain

Understand what a personal domain is and what good would it do for me to have one.
No. 1: What, specifically, is a ‘jetpack of essential features’; (2) What are ‘themes’; (3) What are ‘plug ins’; (4) What is a ‘custom domain name’ and how, specifically, would it benefit me to have one? My sole purpose in even considering acquiring a domain name would be to make money off my blog.

HI there,
No. 1: What, specifically, is a ‘jetpack of essential features’;
Something you don’t need on WordPress.com. Jetpack is a plugin you use if you install a different version of WordPress on your own server, which adds some features to your site. Everything in Jetpack is included on WordPress.com by default.
(2) What are ‘themes’;
It’s the design of your site: Themes
(3) What are ‘plug ins’;
They are little pieces of software that add extra features to the self-hosted version of WordPress. Plugins cannot be used on WordPress.com.
(4) What is a ‘custom domain name’ and how, specifically, would it benefit me to have one?
Your WordPress.com site’s address is http://commonsense931.wordpress.com/
An example of a custom domain would be commonsense.com. So it’s a way to personalise your website, and has value in terms of branding and how search engines display your site.
My sole purpose in even considering acquiring a domain name would be to make money off my blog.
A custom domain isn’t going to make you any money. It’s going to cost you money as it needs to be renewed annually.
The only way to make money from a website is by using it to sell something, or via advertising, and you need thousands of visitors to your site a day to make any meaningful income from advertising. Most website owners barely manage to cover their running costs with advertising.
I suggest you look at this link as well:
It explains exactly how WordPress.com works and what you can do here.
