Personal Plan with Domain Name next to existing WordPress.com Subdomain

    Dear WordPress community,

    I already have a WordPress.com Subdomain, which I use as a blog. Besides this blog, I’d like to create a more professional website with an own domain name. For me, the Personal Plan is perfect for now. However, I was wondering if my current Subdomain will keep existing when I buy a plan with a new domain name? Is it possible to keep these domains (a wordpress.com subdomain and the new domain) next to each other? And how can I make the new domain name my Primary Domain? Thanks in advance!

    Hi lusakaak,

    It sounds like you want to have two separate sites — a blog with a WordPress.com subdomain and a different site with a different domain name.

    To do that, you would need to create a new site within your WordPress.com account. This will be the new site used with the custom domain name.

    Next, you’ll want to sign up for the Personal plan and register your custom domain name. You’ll use that custom domain name with the new site you created.

    Once you’ve done that, your existing blog will remain at vitaliamo.wordpress.com and your new site will use the custom domain name.

    Yes, you’ll be able to keep your free WordPress.com address :) When a custom domain is set as the primary domain, visitors to your site will see it in their browser’s address bar instead of your free WordPress.com address. People can get to your site using either but they will be redirected to your custom domain.
