Personal v Premium plans

I have always been very disappointed with the customization options with my Personal plan, the ability to layout how you want is very rigid. Does the Premium plan make it much easier, I have seen other platforms where you can control your blog/website a bit like with DTP where you just place things where you want, does Premium give you this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

The premium plan gives you the ability to change the appearance of the elements on your blog through the use of custom CSS. Compared to the personal plan, all you are adding is flexible CSS customization and access to premium themes as well as other features you can learn about here
    https://wordpress.com/pricing/

As far as placing thins where you want, HTML-wise, this is still restricted on the premium plan. You will need a business or plan for that uncontrolled editing and customization .

The block editor also, in a way , allows you to place things wherever you want, or has it also failed you in this regard?

Many thanks for your reply. I probably won’t bother then as I really only use it as a blog so don’t want to pay too much. The blocks are ok but are still limited in respect of placement and how you can size them.

So for example, if I wanted to create a small image block, a couple of text blocks, and then lay them over the top of a large image I just can’t seem to be able to do anything like that.

  • @botty1963 – I wanted to create a couple of short video examples for you regarding blocks and how to organize and arrange them over a larger image.

Starting with a “Cover” block and then adding a “Layout Grid” block on top of the Cover block: https://d.pr/v/ohnd4I

Resizing the width of the columns within the Layout Grid block: https://d.pr/v/2yBmf8

The Layout Grid block is pretty interesting because of its flexibility. It’s turned into one of my favorites. Here’s more info about this block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/layout-grid-block/

On further thought, I love the example you provided. We can look at that and think through just how it could be done. Thanks for providing it! Share more with us as you need, we’ll be happy to explore these with you. :)

Just as well, you don’t need a paid plan to explore and push on the blocks I’ve demonstrated above.

Many thanks deancroyal, I think the Cover block can resolve my issue, I never knew about it so was just just adding an image then couldn’t add anything over the top of that hence the frustration.

Thanks for taking the time to create and share the videos, very much appreciated.
