Petition to WordPress about unused or abandoned domains?

  I was just wondering if there is any way for us to issue a petition or some formal complaint to WordPress about getting rid of sites that haven’t been used in a while. I am trying to get a site at bluestockings.wordpress.com, and the author has only one post up, and hasn’t used the site in nearly 3 years. That seems a little ridiculous. I commented on the blog to see if the owner would be willing to transfer the name to me, though so far too soon to tell. My concern is that it seems unlikely that WordPress would still have a correct email address for this person. I tried alternatives like the French version of “bluestockings” which is “bas-bleu”–and guess what. Exact same problem. The blog has only been set up, with NO posts, and it was set up 2.5 years ago. I’m still working the alternative name route, but in the meantime, I wanted to see if anyone would be willing to sign on to the following petition:

  Dear WordPress:
  We are asking that blogs that haven’t been signed to for at least a year be deleted. If the owner has moved on to another site, or just never had the opportunity to develop their WordPress site, this domain should be freed up for more active WordPress users. One of the huge benefits of WordPress is the simple domain name that it provides–while most other blog networks make your site address a complicated mess of numbers and extensions. This benefit of WordPress is significantly diminished if we have to add numbers and extensions to our ideal name just to get a domain.

  Hi, I’m sorry, but there isn’t another way to doing it.

  I’ve been here 2 1/2 years and apart from commenting on the blog and hoping the owner will come across it there’s nothing else you can do.

  Unfortunately good/original names are hard to come by on the internet, especially with services that have been around a long time.

  Thanks! I did get lucky and was able to get in touch with a very friendly blogger who transferred her name. She even contacted me the same day!! What good fortune!
