Phishing e-mails being sent via WordPress

For the second time in a month or so, I’ve received an e-mail – supposedly from myself, supposedly coming from my e-mail address – asking me to check my PayPal account details.

Naturally, it’s a “phishing” e-mail; and the link supplied leads to a site where login details will be harvested.

As before, the actual message source is a WordPress domain, ending in @email.wpengine.com

I contacted Support (back when there was Support), and was assured that the matter would be resolved. It clearly hasn’t been, and Support are now taking an early Xmas break, or something equally nice, so this latest instance can’t even be reported for another ten days.

Anyone else had something similar happen?

I flagged this for staff attention – they do check the forum from time to time even when they are in a meetup planning world domination or what ever they plot

However – wpengine.com – is a different hosting company than WordPress.COM, they are not connected other than both use a version of the WordPress software

Ah, OK – many thanks. I’ve gotten in touch with wpengine, hopefully, it all gets sorted out soon (leaving WordPress Support free to enjoy their Outward Bound adventure, or exploring their new iPhone 6’s…).

I removed the flag for the staff

Good luck – I have been getting a ton of phishing emails of recent for all sorts of things – gift cards and the list goes on and on

Mmm – bit different when the e-mails you’re receiving are from your own e-mail address and bearing your name!

Normally, I’d just hit “phishing scam” and leave it at that – but if I’m getting e-mails bearing my name and e-mail address, others are getting them too and thinking I’m the culprit…

    Thanks for your help!
