Phone died, no backup codes, logged in but want to change to new phone

Hi,
I don’t recall setting up 2FA, but as my phone has died, and I want to change my password and add my new phone number, I am unable to do anything requiring authorization (I’m currently logged in and still seem to be able to access my Reader, posts, etc). I have no Backup Codes, and don’t ever recall setting up 2FA. Can tech. support change my phone # or disable 2FA?

If you lose your device, accidentally remove the authenticator app, or are otherwise locked out of your account, the only way to get back in to your account is by using a Backup Code.

No backup codes, as in subject line.
Other forum posts show that WP support can and does send email to fix this problem. -
