Phone Number Not Private
-
I received a text message on my cell phone from an unknown person, stating that they found my phone number through my blog because it was not set to private. I’m confused by this, as I thought I had set things up correctly. I obviously do not want the world to know my phone number and other information. Help!!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You have a WordPress.org site you are posting on the WordPress.com forum. Please visit the WordPress.org support site here: https://wordpress.org/support/
Here is some information on the differences between .com and org: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Though @ackaeser is correct in her stating that your site is not hosted on WordPress.com (which is what this forum is set up to provide help for). I just wanted to add to this, to provide you with a little information, as I assume this is unsettling not knowing how someone has access to your personal information.
When you purchase a domain and hosting with a provider, you should have been given an option to add a SSL certificate. This certificate ensures your privacy, see here for more details: https://www.globalsign.com/en/ssl-information-center/what-is-an-ssl-certificate/
On WordPress.com hosted sites, SSL is automatically provided: https://en.support.wordpress.com/https-ssl/
Any one can do a WHO IS look up and can see your information without the SSL certificate in place: [link redacted]
You may wish to contact the company you purchased your domain and hosting from to have this resolved.

Hi there, hope you don’t mind me jumping in here.
An SSL certificate means your website is being served over secure server connection. It doesn’t have any connection to what is being displayed in a WHOIS registry.
When you register a new domain, most domain registrars offer an additional service called Privacy, which keeps your private information out of the WHOIS registry. Even though you didn’t register your domain through WordPressdotcom, here is an explanation about this https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/#public-versus-private
Contact your domain registrar, which looks to be Domain com, LLC, to add Privacy to your registration. Normally this involves an additional fee.
Best wishes.

@amandasjackson since the original poster mentioned that she is concerned about her privacy, I’ve removed the link to the WHOIS registry from your above reply. This is a public forum that is quickly indexed by search engines and we don’t want to assist other individuals to easily access that info. Thanks for your understanding.

Thank you :)
And with the link, clearly I wasn’t thinking with that one, so thank you!
