Phony Referrals
-
My site has been getting a rash of phony referrals. Clicking through them I find no actual links or any kind of meaningful relationship between the referring site and my subject matter. Indeed the same referring link will produce different sites when I click on it. I wrote this up under SCAMS on my site here:

Please read. I say in that post that I will make an attempt to contact WordPress, and this is how I’m trying to do it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. You are doing the right thing in contacting staff, but you should refrain from clicking on those referral URLs in the future.
If you haven’t already done so, I suggest you read this …

Had the same thing. Tried to find out about it. Landed on adarnay’s blog. Came here for the same reason.
Thanks airodyssey, just checked the topic link and contacted the The Powers That Be. Even if they just fight one phony referrer at a time it’ll be a step in the right direction. -
Thanks airodyssey and bloggitivity. I’ve marched on and found the way to post my comments “formally.” Have done so. I still hope that WordPress will be able to filter these phony referrals in the same way in which they filter spam comments — of which I also get a daily sprinkling, sometimes a down-pour…

Yes, Staff are acting on this. This situation is merely an annoyance. It does not affect your blog’s standing with Google in any way.
Staff have created a filtering system. They have requested that we do not click the spam refferer links because that is what the spammers want us to do. They have also requested that we do not post any referrer information into forum threads, but instead that we report all spam refferer links directly to them. Thanks for doing that.

Hi,
Same thing’s happening to me (I think). When I check out blog stats, it says that I’m getting referrals from http://malamkupertama.co.cc/blog/15-useful-wordpress-tips-to-make-your-theme-even-better.html (when I know these are all from facebook)

I’m wondering if staff could place a big bold banner somewhere with this information on it. I’ve read this information over and over again and most likely will continue to see the same threads start over and over and over again…

The notices are only partially effective. Even when they appear we still have those who will start another thread on the same darn issue as the ones that have been closed.
Hang loose Volunteers. Always rremain patient and polite. Despite the fact bloggers are expected to be able to read and follow instructions some will not do that. Og well … don’t let those who don’t read and follow instructions your skin, instead move on to the next thread, and help another blogger. :)
