  the photo uploaded appears sideways, how can this be corrected?

  Hi there. Go to Media ->Library in your dashboard. Find the photo in question and click on edit if you’re in list view or the pencil icon if you’re in the grid view. Click on the Edit Image button and you’ll get taken to a screen where you can, among other things, rotate your image: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-editing/#rotating
