Photo appearance in Reader on any post

As I left a question yesterday, I may not have explained this issue correctly. When posting from any of my 9 web sites the post (Whether pre-scheduled or not) once published the photo will appear on the web site post but not in the reader. Why is that? It had NEVER been an issue before (over the last two years?).??? Since, I can not financially afford to .com any of the sites, not pay for support, but allow all advertisers to display their junk on my web sites (to help pay to keep WP running) can anyone help resolve this issue with some form of explanation???

I am having an issue with this as well. Published a post today and the photo does not show up on the reader.
I think this is important because readers are more likely to read your post if they see a picture.

Well I am glad to know I am not the only one to have this all of a sudden occur. And yes, I agree my followers/friends always know that I post photo’s.
Funny though two of my friends just told me (today) that they are having trouble with their posts showing up in the reader at all?! They (unlike) me are a .com blog. They are frustrated as well. They are using other social medias ie: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Bloglovin, so on. Thanks for letting me know and maybe just maybe WP will figure it out for us and resume normal postings with photo’s! -

I set the image for today’s post as a featured image and I still don’t see it in the reader. Do you see it?

Setting the featured image does not alleviate the problem. It is from web site to the reader that the photos do not go too! Same problem today. So whether it is featured or not over and above media photo it is still a big problem with this platform all of a sudden for many. The problem is WP reader properly allowing photo’s to appear with the content/text on the W share or re-blog in the reader! The text will appear but photo does not.

Actually when you originally looked at my posts there was no images, but I posted on Friday and there was an image. If you go back and look at

you will see that there are a number of posts that do not show the images. Why Friday’s post shows an image but the others don’t, who knows?
I have also noticed that other blogs that have had posts in the past with an image showing are not showing images now in the reader, so I think something is going on with the reader. I also noticed that some of the posts that I have written will briefly flash the image in the reader and then it disappears.

Yes that is exactly what is happening all of a sudden! Images (photo’s) on blog site not in reader. So, it is definitely a wp internal software issue displaying the photo’s on W (share) or re-blog.

I never use featured image on my sites only from my media gallery to the posts. They are separate. I do not like the appearance of double photo’s on one post that are the same. It makes one look ridiculous as if they do not know what they are doing. Since I do know what I am doing-it is a WP software issue!!!

Can each of you try using larger images? None of these recent ones are big enough for most social media sites, and the reader works in similar ways. My guess is that these images are too small.
Facebook requires the largest images:
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/best-practicesUse images that are at least 1200 x 630 pixels for the best display on high resolution devices. At the minimum, you should use images that are 600 x 315 pixels to display link page posts with larger images. Images can be up to 8MB in size.
Will you please make sure your images are at least 600 pixels wide and 315 pixels tall, and see whether that helps here as well?

I don’t think this has to do with the size of the image, as some of my earlier posts had previously showed images in the reader, but now they do not and those images were smaller than the dimensions that you mention. The post that I did on Friday, that does show an image, has an image that is considerably smaller (180 x 279 pixels) versus the images (331 x 449 pixels and 330 x 499) of two post that I did today for which neither of the images show up on the reader.
The images that I place in my posts are images of books, as this is a book blog and I know there are many book blogs out there that use the same size images, so this would be a big problem for most of the book bloggers.
If it is a problem with the size of the images, then why is the reader all of a sudden not accepting them when in the past it did?

I don’t see an image for Friday’s post.
I have talked to the reader team and they also are asking you to try larger images. Once you have given that a try, let me know.

I did find a larger picture for the most recent post that I did today (644 x 960) and it does appear in the reader.
The Friday post that I mentioned should have been the Saturday post, which does show the (180 x 279), so it is curious to see that the reader has such a varied size discrepancy.

Lets get something straight here for over 2 years posting images has never been an issue in the reader. All of a sudden in the last week they do not appear with the text (photo and content). Am I not making this clear enough. I personally do not use facebook forum and never will. I am more interested in knowing why all of a sudden this is happening to many of us! It is a WP software issue-an image may as previously stated by someone here flash but DOES not appear in reader post. So, whether we enlarge or not is not the issue, as the other times photo images from the gallery (my particularly) have never been an issue.

The reader, like any other software, will go through regular updates. The current version of the reader is looking for larger images than what you have posted in some of these cases. Future versions may look for larger images still.
I’ve noted the flash and we’ll be looking into that.
I will also pass along the your feedback about wanting support for small images, however I still recommend uploading larger images. That’s coming from someone who still has to replace the ten-year-old 200×300 pixel images on her own site. It’s a pain to go back and do that retroactively, so better to just use higher quality images now.

Yes, when you figure out why (as previously stated by another member here and I concur) the flash of photo in reader and voila that fast it disappears! I still do not believe it is a size pixel image factor. If WP software update version is to accommodate Facebook (of which I will never partake in) you’ll be penalizing ones who are not interested in that social media. Anyone thought about that issue? We are talking about our posts with photo’s not appearing in the reader with the content post. Are you getting that?! Now all of a sudden (in a week’s time) photo does not appear-seems awfully peculiar too me.

Just as I suspected increasing the pixel/image did not do one thing to correct the issue of photo and content of any given post displaying in the reader.. Seems your knowledgeable engineers have absolutely no resolution to this problem several are experiencing. So, why does the image flash then disappear in the reader?! No one knows right? Very incompetent indeed.

@clwiser, I understand you are concerned. As I mentioned earlier, we are looking into the flash problem and will have that resolved shortly. Thank you for pointing it out. Your abusive behavior here is inappropriate, though, and I am closing this thread.
Use images that are at least 350 pixels wide and tall, though we strongly recommend using larger images to future proof your site and provide a better experience for the user.
