  Is there any way to place a rotating carousel into my wordpress.com site? I know you can do it with the .org sites…

  No there is not as there is no FTP access to our blogs and we cannot install plugins. However, there are several themes that do have featured post sliders on the front page > http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/post-slider/ And, we can have galleries or slideshows in any theme.
