Edit post with the photo in it, click the pic, choose the mountain icon, select “link to image” then go to advanced settings and choose Target “Open link in new window.” Update.

When inserting new images, choose “File URL” Then go back to edit the image, advanced settings and choose Target “Open link in new window.” Update.
WordPress will remember the “File URL” setting the next time you insert an image (unless you change it), so you shouldn’t have to do that step everytime.

The advanced settings step, you’ll have to do for each picture each time if you want them to open in a new window.

Great, I hope it works for you then.

Hi ltess, i tried to do as you said but it din work for me…

    1. Open the post with the image that you want to enlarge when clicked on.
    2. Click on the image and then click on the mountain icon that appears in the upper left corner of the image.
    3. When the window opens, click on the “file URL button and the URL of the image should appear in the file URL field.
    4. If you want it to open in a new window, click on “advanced options” at the top of that window and select “open link in new window” under “target.”
    5. At the bottom of the window, click “update.”
    6. When that window closes click on “update post” and then view the post and it should have changed so that it links to the full-sized image and opens in a new window.

Hi, I followed the instructions of both thesacredpath and 1tess, and it seemed to go well. When I clicked on the photo in my blog it went to a seperate page(which is good) but the picture did not enlarge and it also had the dashboard for my internet provider in it (which is bad). Can any one tell me where I went wrong? If you want to see for yourself, go to the post “Lime Walk” on my blog.

Hi, I just had to go back and change the check in open link to new window. I checked it as if I had come in from google and you could go right in and check my mail. Now, I am back the way it was before, def not sure where I went wrong.

I’ve been having the same problem with photos not enlarging when clicked on. I have two blogs – one I updated on 2 July. The photos I uploaded that day do enlarge when clicked on. My second blog I also updated on 2 July (I created this blog a while ago, and have just started to add to this) – the photos do not enlarge when clicked on. I have been through the process described here to edit the photo and open in new window, but the photos do not enlarge.

Has somethings happened to WordPress blogs?

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry – should have listed my two blogs:

First one with photo enlargement: http://www.stitcherist.wordpress.com
Second one without photo enlargement: http://www.getfrenchknotted.com

Yes, they are both about my embroidery. My tutor needs to see enlarged photos of my work.

@kilbournegrove & mwldesigns, the href part of your image codes is like that:
    <a href="http://getfrenchknotted.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/imgp2917.jpg?w=300">

    It should be like that:
    <a href="http://getfrenchknotted.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/imgp2917.jpg">

So you can go to the html post editor and correct the codes.

But I don’t know why you get that in the first place. How exactly are you uploading and inserting images?

On 2 July I uploaded images using Browser uploader (I have used this many times previously). I used the File url button.
When I discovered the photos didn’t enlarge, I added another photo using the Post url button – see Page Threads and Stitchery Chapter 9. The first photo does not allow ‘click’. The second photo can be clicked on, then opens with photo with ‘comment’ box below.
I worked on editing the photos this morning (not the Chapter 9 photos though) and used the ‘mountain’ icon, clicked on Link to Image button. After still experiencing problems I checked Forums and could see that I had already tried what was suggested.
I’ve just tried this Link to Image button again and it’s this that inserts the w and h references in the html. I’ve changed the html as suggested and now receive “404 file not found”.

Ah yes, you get the wrong width suffix when you switch to the “Link to image” option after you have already inserted the image. You must select “File URL” before inserting it.

For the differences etc. between “File URL” and “Post URL” you can check this post of mine:

Uploading and inserting images: the three (plus one) link options

And which image is giving you the 404?

  • Unknown's avatar

@panachiotisadam: Thank you very much for the link to your post. I have spent some time on my blog, corrected the 404 error, and have managed to sort most of my photos. I’ve changed the post to a Page “Begin with the end in mind” Two photos at the end of this page still do not enlarge. I’ve thought I can delete these photos from Media and upload them again and see what happens next time. I haven’t done any work on the “Threads … Ch 9” page though – still need to sort that one.

Is it okay if I include the link to your post in my blog post today?

  • Unknown's avatar

    – The two photos at the end do enlarge: from the 300px of the post to the 386px of the originals.

    – You don’t need permission to add links!
