Photo galleries are displaying incorrectly (formatting) in Chrome and Safari

The photos I’ve put in galleries are displaying incorrectly (weird/no formatting) in Chrome and Safari but are fine in IE. I’ve tried emptying caches and deleting wordpress-specific cookies in the problematic browsers, as well as restarting them and rebooting the entire PC. It’s a photography blog so I can’t post anything until this is resolved. Help?

In order to help you we need to know your specific computing environment details. Please work through what follows and report back.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.

Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/
(c) Exactly what you experience including what any error reports you receive state. -

Can you grab a screenshot of what you are seeing when they display correctly and incorrectly? Without knowing what you mean as far as how they SHOULD look, it is hard to troubleshoot.
Here are some screenshot instructions if you are not familiar with the process:
I find http://snag.gy/ to be very useful for sharing screenshots. You can also upload the screenshot to your site’s media library. I will be able to see it there.

I’ve added a shot of the screwy display (taken in Chrome) and the correct display (taken in IE) in the media library. Here are the URLs:

Another interesting wrinkle: Safari wasn’t showing the same issues when I first posted this but has now “magically” resolved itself!

It looks like the images you are trying to fit total too wide for the content area that your theme has to display them in. If the thumbnails were smaller, or you used a theme with a larger content area, the issue should be solved.

If you are using the Tiled Mosaic (Rectangular) type Gallery, the Gallery images should automatically resize and fill the entire width of the theme’s content area. Depending on what images you have inserted (all portrait, all landscape or photos with an unusual ratio), this may be interfering with the display in the Gallery.
