Photo Gallery Recommendations

I’ve seen a few threads with some dated answers on recommended Photo Gallery plugins, but I’d like some more current information.
I have a simple blog about my daughter used to stay in touch with our family. I’d like to add a second page with custom galleries of her drawings, and pictures that she takes. Can anyone recommend a free and simple plugin?
We don’t need tons of power, though I’m happy to and can probably use more full featured ones. But right now our needs are simple.

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot install individual plugins into them Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.
