Photo resizing
-
I was referred to WordPress’s photo resizing site to reduce the size of my photos for ease of downloading, I find the instructions for this site incomprehensible, however, I have been using another that I have figured out, my question is: what pixel size should I use?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I don’t understand what you’re asking. You decide how big you want your image to be. We can’t tell you that.
However, I would not recommend resizing images in the media library. The media library editing feature are very basic, and are not designed for in-depth image editing. Additionally, if you resize an image in your media library it will take up more space than the original image, as we then store both the original and the resized version of the image on your site.
Rather resize images to the size you want them to show on your site before you upload them to your media library. You can use software like GIMP or Photoshop to do that, or you can use an online image editing service like photopea.com or pixlr.com

@kokieh I was told that for speed of downloading plus ease of viewing especially in phones a smaller pic around I believe 2MB was best, I was wondering what that might be in pixels.
Thanks for the info on media storage, I shall make sure to only load the resized photo there.

@learnenglishhawke7 the Independent Publisher2 theme showcase page has Quick Specs for images at the very bottom, but it is worthwhile reading the whole thing if you haven’t looked at it https://wordpress.com/theme/independent-publisher-2
I don’t know if you are using the same theme on your Private site, but if it isn’t the same one, you can find its description in the theme showcase too.
2MB is also quite large if someone is reading your site on a mobile device over cellular data, as opposed to WiFi, so the smaller byte-wise, the better (as long as you aren’t hugely sacrificing image quality). It’s a trade-off.

@justjennifer Yes I am using the same theme in both sites.
I found the recommended pixel size at the bottom of the link you posted, thanks, think I am ready to start posting on my Private site once I set up my Fb page to advertise it.
