photo size not changing from full to large

  When posting photos, no change is appearing when I choose the large format instead of full. The dimensions are different between the two in the edit function, but when I preview the image, there is no change. I want some of my photos to appear smaller than the full size, but medium is too small. I have played around with ‘custom size’ but it sometimes causes viewing issues and takes too much time. How can I get the ‘large’ format to work correctly?
