Photo that appears in reader
-
Is there a way to select a photo and ensure that will be the photo that appears in the READER when the blog is published? I can be very disappointed when a random photo is chosen that doesn’t tell my story.
(I’m not referring to the header as I mistakenly set a photo to appear there when I meant the reader – trying to do this myself.)
Thanks for your help!

Hello,
The best way to ensure you control which image shows up in the reader is to assign a featured image before you publish the post.Let me know if you have any trouble.

We went in and set the featured image as described in the directions you sent. (Upper right corner, “set featured image”, etc) However, when the post was published the image also appeared as a replacement for our header as well. We don’t want to change our header photo – and only want to ensure the photo that appears in the reader is the one we’ve designated.

You have run in to an interesting situation – generally featured images are the one image you want to represent your post, and in your current theme, that image is also used in the single post view as the header. Some themes do not have feature image headers, so if you’d consider a theme change, that may be something to consider.
From my testing, if you do not assign a featured image to the post at the time it is published, the reader will use the first image in the post in the reader (or no image if you don’t include images in the post).
Let me know if this doesn’t work better for you.
