Photo upload problems

I have been using wordpress.com for a few years and I’ve never had this issue. For some reason, the photo uploader has not been working effectively over the past week or so. I’ve tried updating my browser (Safari), switching browsers (to Google Chrome), and switching from the “drag-and-drop uploader” to the “browse uploader” all with no success. Once in awhile, I can close my internet browser, re-open it, and successfully downloaded one photo, but the second one won’t work (either in a post or just to the library).
Usually, the post appears to have downloaded (100%, sometimes even “Crunching” after that), but the additional dialog box that allows you to rename and save the photo never appears. The “Show” hyperlink also never appears.
Like I said, I’ve been able to get it to work about 10% of the time, but not consistently at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i am suffering exactly the same problem, and it has just manifested in the last couple of weeks also.
very frustrating. i have tried copying files to various formats, then copying them back, sometimes as smaller files, have used ‘Grab’ to copy a photo again, saved under an array of names and none of these steps allows me to import the photo. i am h=getting better than 10% uploads but more than 50% are fails.
while pleased that i’m not alone, i’d love to hear of the fix. best …

Update: I have discovered that using the Firefox browser has eliminated the issue. While I would prefer Safari or Google Chrome, I’ve temporarily made the switch until wordpress gets the issue sorted out.

thanks mrcmarsh, i very much appreciate the update re the Firefox workaround. i too would like to get back to Chrome as soon as Team WP and/or Team Google fix this wrinkle. best regards …

I tested uploading images using Chrome on my WordPress.com blog, and uploading images worked for me without any problems. I tried both the browser uploader as well as the multi-file uploader. I used Chrome 18 in my test. I see that version 19 is out, I will upgrade and try another test. Could you both let me know which version of Chrome you’re currently running?

I did upgrade to Chrome 19 earlier and still couldn’t reproduce the problem you guys have described where you are having trouble uploading images. I tested the multi-file uploader by dropping files and by using the ‘Select Files’ button.
Are you behind a firewall, using a proxy, or running any other local software which could be blocking you from sending images over your local network or from your computer?

no firewalls or anything special running at this end. and my problems were all with Chrome v.18
