Photo uploads failure
-
photos do not upload — since Sunday I have not been able to upload files to the WordPress media library. I have tried while editing a post and from the library, and used both the multi-file upload and the single file option. No luck. I have tried different photos. The same photo I wanted to upload worked with FaceBook and the Safari browser I am using, so it seems to be WordPress and not the system / browser. I use a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHZ Intele Core 2 Duo, OSX 10.8.3, Safari 6.0.4; system updates automatically checks and I update when alerted.

Sorry you are having issues uploading images. I took a look at your media library and see you have uploaded images on 6/5 and 6/6, and just now I successfully uploaded an image to your media library from Safari 6.0.4. Are you still experiencing problems uploading?
I checked some of your images and all looks good you have uploaded and I see nothing historically that I think would cause issues. My only suggestion would be to perhaps optimize your image for the web so that the file sizes are perhaps 500k or less for faster loading. I’ve included a couple links for reference.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/It could also be the browser that is causing the issue and this support document on browser troubleshooting has some good tips: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/
PS. Your site is quite interesting with great images. I’ll be taking a look around.

Hi,
Thanks for the answer. I’ll look at the support material and optimize photos. The ones I uploaded came from the iPad app, not the laptop and browser where I prefer to work. Except, I managed to upload a 1 pixel by 1 pixel gif I use for line spacing.
I just had a system update for OS X, and I was hoping it might fix the issue, but apparently not, as I just tried without success. I can, for now, upload from the iPad app and then use the images from the library on the laptop.
Glad that you liked the site and are going to look through it.

Michael, sorry you are still having problems.
When you uploaded from the iPad, was it connected to the same internet connection?
What exactly happens when you try to upload an image from Safari on your laptop? What do you see?
I had @designsimply try uploading a test image as mydekel123 via Safari 6.0.4 on Mac OS X 10.8.3 and it worked. If your iPad was using the same internet connection as your laptop, then it is probably a browser add-on or setting causing the issue.
Clear your Safari cache and cookies, disable any browser add-ons/plugins you may have installed, restart Safari and try uploading an image. If that doesn’t work, download this image to your computer and try uploading it: http://s.wordpress.org/about/images/wordpress-logo-notext-bg.png
Do you have another browser installed that you can try to see if it is related to just Safari? If not, could you download Chrome or Firefox and see if you can upload from one of those?
Let me know what happens.

Hi again.
I cleared the cache and successfully uploaded two different images from the Dashboard. When I tried again to upload an image from within editing a page (my page titled links), the status bar shows the image uploading through 100%, then I receive this message:
“Error Pesach2009.jpeg
An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”This error message repeats with a different image I tested:
“Error Window View – 2.jpg
An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”Previously, when I tried to load from the Dashboard, the status upload showed 100% then went to “Crunching” and spun there indefinitely. I just went back to upload another through the Dashboard (Media–>Add New menu), and again it’s stuck in Crunching… after Uploading goes to 100%.
My apologies, but I’m writing this more or less as an on-going log while doing the steps. I cleared the cache again and shrunk the Pesach2009.jpg image even further, and it worked from within editing the page.
Then, I went again to the Dashboard–>Media–>Add new and tried the second image I’ve been testing…Window View – 2.jpg. It’s stuck in Crunching…
I don’t have any Extensions, but I turned them off anyway. I don’t think I have any Plug-Ins (I think Safari only has Extensions, b/c that’s all I find listed). I will try quitting and restarting Safari. It may indeed be a browser issue. I will also try Chrome, as you asked. I have Firefox, too. I’ll get back to you on those.
Thank you. I hope this isn’t too much information–trying to give you enough to help you figure it out.

Back again.
Chrome worked with uploading from both within edit page and from the Dashboard.
FireFox worked with both methods.
Safari gave me the same error message (for a different photo) when I restarted and tried to upload, with cache cleared.
I’ll go with FireFox for now, or Chrome when I have other reason to have that open.
Thanks
Michael

Michael, I’m glad Chrome and Firefox are working for you and you can do some blogging.
Since FF and Chrome are working, and since we were able to upload images from Safari into your accoutn, it points to a possible setting in Safari. In your preferences, make sure Javascript is enabled (Preferences > Security). Here is a screenshot of my settings: http://flippintestblog.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/safari-pref-sec.png
Try using https to connect to your site as explained here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
I recently had a problem uploading images from Safari when I switched to using a proxy server. Are you using a proxy server? If so, go to System Preferences > Network > proxies tab and try checking “Exclude simple hostnames”. Click OK and then click “apply.” If you are using a proxy, try temporarily turning it off and see if you can upload.
If you have virus software installed try temporarily disabling it and see if you can upload images.
Do you have the Mac OS X firewall enabled (System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall tab. If it is enabled, temporarily disable it and try uploading an image.
Look at this support document on advanced troubleshooting and in the section on Safari, use the web inspector to log and look at Network Requests to see where things are hanging up.
