Photo visible in edit mode but not preview mode
-
In my latest post “Secret Life of Sword Fern” I wanted to show a photo of a close-up of the leaf. It is the photo in the middle of the post. A friend of mine sent it to me as an email attachment. It is in jpg form. I was able to put it in post in edit mode, but when I go to preview, only a small box appears. When I click the small box the photo appears. But when I published the post, readers tell me that they get a missing file message from WordPress when they click on the little box.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is because the file IS missing from WordPress. You haven’t uploaded it. Do so, then Insert Into Post using the standard procedure, then Update the post and it will show.

Thank you raincoaster for your message. I am still having problems. The photo of the fern leaf I want to use is in my WordPress Media Library. I then uploaded it to my article” The Secret Life of Sword Ferns”. When I then go to the edit version it is there. But when I go to the “Preview Changes” version , it only shows the little box.
I noticed one other problem with the photo. I went to “Edit” and “resized” (haven’t got right term, the first option, to select a part of the photo), it would not let me save the change (i.e. when I put cursor on blue “Change” button, it did not change from an arrow into a hand.

You mean cropping. After you select the area you want to keep, you click the crop tool to crop the image, then you click the blue Save button (and then the Update button).
You have done this successfully at least once, because the URL of the missing image shows it’s a cropped version. And the cropping is the key to the other issue. When you use one of the tools that change an image, the new version gets a new URL, to distinguish it from the previous version. You probably cropped the image, inserted it into the post, then cropped it again or restored it or something like that, without re-inserting it, so the post contains the URL of a version that currently doesn’t exist. Please go to Media > Library, click Edit next to the thumbnail of the image in question, copy its URL from the “File URL” field of the Save module, paste it here.

Hi Hans, did you find a solution to your problem? Did any of the suggestions work? I can’t upload fotos to my blogposts either. I can edit them, but they don’t show up in the preview and the post.

Thank you, Justpi. I, visited your site and saw all the other helpful hints which I have to study.
With regard to your advice, I followed you all the way to the last line where you wrote “the “File URL” field of the Save module, paste it here.”
Where is “here”? -
You’re welcome. Here is here! That is, in a reply of yours (so I can check it to confirm what I think and tell you what to do).
