Photographs won't enlarge on blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,
I use my blog for my university photography work. My tutor recently advised me that the photographs were not enlarging to a large scale when he tried to click on them. Usually, they would open to a large scale upon clicking on them. Instead, you can now only view them the size that they have been put on the blog page.

I use the WordPress theme Adelle and have used this theme for my two other photography blogs and the photographs enlarge upon click fine on the other blogs. It’s just this blog won’t allow it to work.
I’ve changed it to other WordPress themes as I thought it may be a problem with the Adelle theme, but it happened on three other themes. Therefore, I know it’s not the theme on the blog, it must be something to do with my settings.
I’m completely confused with what I am to do next as I don’t know what could be wrong with this blog.

If someone could help or advise me, I would be extremely grateful.

    Thank you in advance.

    Kind regards
    Chantelle

    Hi Chantelle,

The fact that left clicking on the images in the post “Assignment Two: Photographing the Unseen” on your front page has no effect indicates that they aren’t linked to the media file or an attachment page. Either of these two settings will result in the full file size of the image being displayed.

The link to settings I refer to may be found in the wp-admin post or page editor. Instructions:

    • Left click on an image to display the menu option above the image.
    • Click on the Edit icon (pencil) to open the Image Details module.
    • At Image Details > Display Settings > Link to, choose either Attachment Page or Media File. (I prefer the former because the attachment page provides a lot of information about the site, and links to the site, whereas the media file does not.)
    • Click on the Update button at the lower left of the module.
    • Update the post or page.

My previous instructions will only fix those images already inserted into posts or pages. To prevent future images from being inserted without the appropriate “Link to” setting see below.

Again in the wp-admin interface, the setting you choose when uploading a new image for embedding at Insert Media > Attachment Display Settings > Link to, will apply to all future images uploaded until you change it. So change the “Link to” setting to either Media File or Attachment Page the next time you upload an image for insertion. This setting will be applied to future uploaded images until the setting is changed again.

I’m not sure how this works in the My Sites post and page editors. Let me know if you want special instructions for that interface.
