Hi,
The Orvis theme you’ve chosen has a portfolio feature that can help you create what you’re looking for.
If you’d like your portfolio separate from the rest of your site’s content (ex: blog posts and pages) you can do so by clicking on My Sites >Portfolio>Add.
From there, you can add your images. Be sure to add a Featured Image and Custom Excerpt before publishing.
Continue to add your portfolio entries.
If you’d like set your album of pictures as your front page, you can do the following:
1. Create or edit a page by selecting My Sites>Site Pages> Add.
2. On the right of the screen under Page Settings, select Page Attributes and change the Page Template from Default Template to Portfolio Page Template. Don’t forget to publish the page. : )
3. Next you’ll go to the Customizer‘s Static Front Page panel and set “Front page displays” to “A static page.”
4. Finally, you’ll select the page you just assigned the Portfolio Page Template to as “Front page”. You can also set another page as the “Posts page” to display your blog posts.
All of this information was taken from the Orvis theme documentation, which you can read about here: https://wordpress.com/theme/orvis
You can also read about how to make the most of your portfolio here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/making-the-most-of-your-portfolio/
This should get you on your way to creating your desired photography blog. Please let me know if this info works for you.
