photography theme ideas

    Hi everyone:

    I’m looking for a new theme available through the WordPress site. I’ve searched online but ones I like don’t appear in the WordPress search and I’m not confident to download one from an external source. Something free on Premium would be ideal.

    I currently use the Collective theme, which works well enough but I need something that will display photos full screen width, but also works well as a blog.

    I’m also using Morden on a temporary second site and I love how I can set blocks side by side in columns to create a custom layout. I don’t know what this functionality is called! Can anyone help on this so I can search for other themes that do this? Only problem with the Morden theme is that it only displays part of the screen on my desktop and I want something full width.

    It’s midnight here in Western Australia but I will be checking in tomorrow :)

    Any WordPress theme will work as a blog. What theme you use doesn’t really matter in this regard – blog posts are a built-in feature of the WordPress software itself, so as long as you designate a page on your site to display your posts, it will work with any theme.

    So focus on the features you want, in this case, full-width images.

    The themes at this link are all tagged as designed for photography, so you should find something that will work in this list:

    The first 8 themes in that list are also new themes that were specifically created for the block editor, so if you want to use the layout options you get with blocks, those are the best ones to look at. You can use the block editor with any older theme as well, but older themes might not support all the block editor features.

    Only problem with the Morden theme is that it only displays part of the screen on my desktop and I want something full width.

    This is normal – on any of the block-editor themes, by default content you add will be restricted to the theme’s content area width (text content shouldn’t be wider than around 75 characters, or it becomes hard to read, so most themes will set a maximum width for the content area to restrict line length of text.)

    But for most blocks, and especially image and gallery blocks, you can select the Wide Width or the Full-width alignment option to make your images wider than the text content.

    This will work in any of the block-editor themes, including Morden, but will not work on all of our older themes that predate the block editor.
