How do I get rid of the thumbnail photo that appears on my browser tab next to the website address?

You have to upload one of your own: you do that on your Dashboard under Settings->General and upload the Blog Picture. I believe it’s also called a Blavatar, just to keep things confusing. You can click on my name to see how it works on my blog.
