  I would like to be able to have different rotating images on my front page. Is this possible with the free plan? Very new to wordpress and blogs so still learning. Thanks

  Yes you can accomplish that. Here are 2 different ways.

  Post Slider in theme https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/post-slider/
