Photos are missing from posts
-
I deleted photos from the media library not realizing that in my posts they would then disappear. I up loaded the photos again, put them back where they belonged with great grueling effort. The posts I re-worked in this way are fine but now many other posts’ photos show up as just a little square and the slideshows cannot be found. Even though the photos were not deleted. What happened?? Can you help??
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please provide an example or two of pages or posts where images are not displaying as you would expect.

I also have that problem. I didn’t delete the photos from my media library, but they are gone from my posts. What happened?? Could it be that the photos were copywrited?? I try and give credit to each photo and where I found it. Thanks!
Blog pages in question are:

The image “Friends Post 4” on the Two Gentlemen in the Taxi…post appears to have been deleted or modified. That’s what the 404 error when I left click (on FF) or right click and select “view image” indicates. See https://beanxiousaboutnothing.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/friends-post-4.gif. There may be some other explanation that I’m unaware of, but in my experience with WordPress.com sites, the 404 error on an image has always indicated that the image has either been deleted or the URL has been modified.
Note that modifying the date, or the image file name in the library would have the same result on an embedded or gallery image as deleting it from the library.
Clicking on, or attempting to view the second image has the same result, indicating that it was also deleted or modified.

Thank you for helping!
All the photos in the post appear as little boxes: https://billandgenevieve.wordpress.com/2015/02/28/wanting-out-of-winters-grip/
All but 2 of the photos in the next post are completely missing. The other 2 are little boxes https://billandgenevieve.wordpress.com/2015/01/13/je-suis-charlie/ -
@mcwart- since your site is Private we forum volunteers won’t be able to fully help.
If you would prefer not to make your site visible to the public, then please add a MODLOOK tag to the sidebar of this thread for Staff assistance with this topic.

Of course! Please look again . . . When I discovered the problem with the photos from a viewer’s alert I made it private. I’ve put it back to public just now even though there is a lot more repair to do. Thank you!

Are the two posts you linked to examples of posts where you did not delete the images from the Media Library? All I’m coming up with are 404 errors.
About replacing images that you’ve deleted, when you re-upload an image you do need to edit each post to replace the deleted image as the image URL will be different from the original. (date uploaded appearing in the URL will be the current month and not the original upload date)
So, musicdoc1’s comment about the change in image URL is relevant for you as well.
-
So, I can just re-upload the images and wordpress will put them back where they belong with any of the formatting changes I made when they were first inserted in the post, before I did the deleting that got me in this trouble? That would sure help!
-
No, you would have to upload and reinsert the images manually into each post, one by one. Sorry if that was not clear.
But again, are the two posts you linked to examples of posts where you did not delete the images from the Media Library?
-
Sometimes, i also have that problem. Don’t worry, check network bandwidth and try to upload photos one by one.
-
Darn. I see though. The two post examples do contain photos I did not delete but I made a wrong conclusion about not having deleted others – checking the media library most are gone, so I’ll start over. The funny thing is though when I first open a post many of the photos seem to flash up for a second then disappear. Maybe my connection is bad.

skytoyota- Hi there, as per the original post, they deleted these images from their Media Library.
-
@mcwart – they may be trying to be pulled from an image cache, either in your browser.
Sorry for no better news, but clicking Delete Permanently in your Media Library means exactly that. You’ll have to re-upload and re-insert every image.
Just for understanding, unless you are uploading full size images straight out of your digital camera, that 3GB of free space will usually last you a long time. There’s no reason for deleting images wholesale.
-
Thank you. I really appreciate your help. And I think I need to figure out how to make my photos smaller before uploading. I am approaching 3 GB now I think. Wish I could shrink them all in the medial library but I don’t think that is possible.
-
No it isn’t possible, so this may be a boon in disguise. You don’t need any image to be larger than the width of the theme it is being displayed on. For Twenty Twelve, that’s about 960 pixels wide. See the bottom of the page here: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentytwelve/
