photos blurred since new upload system in place – how to get quality back?
-
pictures on digg3 don’t display properly anymore since the upload tools have been changed (Jan 4th)
I’ve tried uploading them in all sorts of different sizes and ways, use the same good camera – nothing helps: they are blurry and pixled. I don’t enjoy blogging anymore since. Any help would be appreciated. -
The upload system did not alter how photos are processed, it really only changed the interface used to upload them.
Focusing on http://julicainbondi.wordpress.com/2013/03/24/endless-summer/ I can kind of see what you mean, as the images are blurry, but so are the original uploaded files, like http://julicainbondi.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/img_6053.jpg
They’re also quite small for originals. Are you scaling the photos down before uploading? The larger and higher quality your uploaded originals are, the less noticeable any loss in quality will be when the theme scales down the images to display them within the blog.

Hi happiness engineer, thanks for looking into this. It really shrinks my blog lust (visible in no entries for weeks… never happened before)
It’s funny but the blurry photos started exactly the day the upload interface was changed. strange coincidence?
I do scale the photos down, because if I upload an original with about 5 MB it takes ages for the page to build up, esp for people with slower download speeds, not every one lives in silicon valley… . so I generally scale them down to s.th. like a 400 kb file size. but I’ve done that for years of blogging and they always came out brillantly and focused and sharp. That was never a problem. Why is it one now?
I tried to upload a photo in original the other day 3456 × 5184 px but it didn’t look any better, and as I said, the page took very long to build. I think there must be something else wrong. I’d love to improve the look again, so if you have any idea that would be great. -
Try the originals one more time in your next post, and let’s take a look at it when that happens.
The theme actually scales down the images to fit the front page, so folks on a slow connection actually don’t have to wait for the whole original to load.
