photos blurry in custom header – Pressrow Theme
-
hi all
i’m starting a new blog, i like pressrow theme for the custom header photo option, but i can’t get the custom header picture to show up in focus. i’ve tried a number of them, different sizes, i use the stock xch website to upload photo images. the pressrow cropper tool mentions the dimensions of “770×200 pixels will be used as is”. do i need to find one of a very particular size or can i resize the image somehow in my mac and then upload it so it appears in focus?
thanks in advance!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Do not rely on use of the wordpress.com cropper. Instead upload a high resolution image and use either free online tools or a local program like photoshop on your own computer to compress, optimize and re-size the image to the exact size for your header. Then upload it into your blog.
-
Also note that we require you to post the complete url for the blog to which you refer starting with http:// when you post to the forum for help.
-
thanks for the quick response timethief!
so, do you know what size i’d need to resize an image to in order to use the pressrow custom photo header?
here is my new blog http://atablespoonofoil.com
thanks!

All the custom header sizes are listed here http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/ They also appear on your dashboard. Simply click “Custom header”
-
SIGH The url you posted is not loading. This presents me with all kinds of difficulties when it comes to providing you with accurate information.
(1) As the link you posted does not load, I cannot even tell if it’s a wordpress.COM blog that you are referring to. It could be a self hosted wordpress.ORG install.
(2) Even if it is a wordpress.COM blog as I have no working link to it I also do not know if the blog has been CSS edited.
If so then the “custom header upload” will not longer work. When CSS is edited the image for the header must be placed in the correct position on the CSS stylesheet.

hi again
i’ve looked on my dashboard but don’t see anything that says custom header, unless i click on Theme, Pressow – then it brings up an option to click Custome Header, which them brings up Manage Themes, and the option to edit the custom header, which says 770 x 200 pixels.
i tried to optimize 2 photos in the Instant Optimizer linked in your blog above to 770 x 200 but they come back different sizes and are still blurry in the custom header box when i upload the optimzed ones.
i’m clueless here, are there more details to be shared?
many thanks

sorry, let me try again
http://atablespoonofoil.wordpress.com
hope that works, i really do appreciate the help you;re trying to offer.

On your dashboard on the left hand side is a column.
Click “Appearance” and in the 4th position below it you see “Custom Header”.
I do not know how to respond to your second last paragraph at all. I have used all the optimizers with zero difficulty. What is the size of the original image you are using?
Is the original image you are using wider than what you need it to be?
Is the width of the original image smaller than what you want it to be? -
here is the info from stock xch website where i download the photo from
screen size –
3008 x 2000 pixelsprint size –
10″ x 6.7″ at 300dpi
25.4cm x 17cm at 300dpifile size –
2315 Kbytesit looks to me like the picture is much larger in pixels than what i need (770 x 200 as specified in the pressrow theme custom header info)
as for my second paragraph above – i went into the instant optimzer link on your blog and gave it the specifications of 770 width and 200 height, but it didn’t do that, it gave other optimized sizes of its own choosing, which didn’t work as you can see in my current header photo on the blog…

i don’t know how to compress, resize etc.
-
If you give us the URL of the page from which you downloaded the photo, maybe we can resize it for you.
-
http://www.sxc.hu/photo/1205841
that would be great! and then if it’s possible, will you be able to share how you did it? and how will you get it to me?
thanks :)
-
Ah sorry, that page requires signing up, and I’m not willing to do that. Since you’ve obviously signed up and downloaded the pic, please go to your blog’s dashboard > Media > Add New, upload the pic and give me that URL.

here it is, will this work? again, if you can get it resized correctly, then please do share with me how you did it so i can try other images until i find the perfect fit.
many thanks! i appreciate your generosity with time and knowledge to help me. i hope to pass it on someday….

thenaturalkitchen,
That’s not the link to the image. But never mind, I’ve already posted it.

oh devblog, thank you for helping me on this quest.
i’m really quite an intelligent person, just not very computer/photo savvy…..

Just make a header in Photoshop or Paint AND MAKE SURE YOU SET THE ATTRIBUTES TO YOUR HEADER DIMENSIONS! Then save as .PNG NOT JPEG! Take a look at how crisp the header is at my site :D
-
PNG works well for solid-color graphics, but it is not the best thing to use for photographic images. JPG is best for photographs. GIF’s too are meant for solid-color graphics.
