Photos coming up blank?
-
Adding my voice. I’m a Sky user and and can’t see images on http://valerievargas.com/ (which is a WordPress.com blog).
-
Mine is snookerbacker.com by the way, again a wordpress.com blog. It would be great to get to the real issue on this one as if it is Sky blocking certain things it may be time to change provider.
-
Update: this morning I can now see my existing images on my blog but it won’t let me post new ones.
Thanks for looking into this, it’s really frustrating so I appreciate the help.
It appears to be a UK Sky thing certainly. Any updates appreciated.

SB thats my feeling as well. Time to change?
I’m not at all technical but I’m guessing they are trying to stop ppl illegal file sharing and uploading copyright content?
All I’ve uploaded is two of my own original photos so it’s clearly a very arbitrary method they’ve used and if it turns out to be blocking I will be looking for a different provider.
I’ve posted about this on the sky User forum as well so will keep checking to see if it’s fixed but for now I’m off to look at other blog providers, to see if they are affected in the same way, I’ve only just started and this is ridiculous, something stinks and shows pretty poor judgement on someone’s part.
Thanks WP people for working on it though, just don’t have time to waste hanging around waiting.

Agreed bikesport. If it is the beginning of blocking content then that is scary stuff. Does anyone have the best direct number to ring them on at all? Might be worth posting this up for anyone having the same problem.

Eek heres some feedback from the sky forum:
>>>>>>Re: WordPress.com blogs – Blocked by Sky ISP? Help!
>>>>>>Could be that a LOT of blogs also host illegal MP3s – could be Sky >>>>>>being responsible and protecting it’s users from falling prey to the law…
Yep thanks sky for protecting me from myself!!!! I call BS on that logic.
ALSO
>>>>>>I don’t think the blog issue is intentional, just a side effect of other >>>>>>current issues at the moment.
>>>>>>Issues With Rapidshare? Try these Workarounds
>>>>>>Although it probably won’t do any good or help you solve your issues >>>>>>with the images at the moment, until the other issues are sorted out.
I suffer from Technofear and this kind of thing makes me want to shrug, turn off the PC and go to the pub with my mates.

I know what you mean. I wish people would just tell us what the problem is in plain English and then just tell us if and when it will be fixed. Is the general concensus then that this is not intentional and is simply a glitch that they need to work on?
-
Seems there might be an issue with deliberate blocking. All the filesharing sites became unavailable at the same time to Sky Users.
Now it is the proboards messageboards and wordpress.
-
More Quotage in simpler language from the Sky User forum:
>>>>>
User = NewsreadeR“Sky have no reason to intentionally block any site, unless of course the IWF tell them to. (IWF – Internet Watch Foundation)
It would appear that the issue lies between Sky and a transit provider (a fibre cable provider that all the internet traffic is routed along to get to various locations around the world) Something appears to have gone wrong at this point in the equation so to speak and hence the issues that you are not seeing images, as well as others not being able to get to download / file hosting sites.
Therefore Sky’s internet traffic is now suffering with these problems, and it could quite possibly be absolutely nothing to do with Sky.
Although this is only a theory at the moment.”
<<<<<<Sounds like blame shuffling to me, but I’m learning new stuff which is fab.
-
The thing I don’t understand is how we all seem to have been affected at the same time. Surely this means that something must have changed at their end (or at WP – still not ruled that out!) to affect this change? The hassle you have changing provider is a real pain and if I can avoid having to do that I’d be pretty relieved.
-
I’m afraid I know very little about networks, I’m looking to learn, but right now, once the data exits my Sky Router and heads off down the phone line I couldn’t care where it goes as long as it does what I requested.
If it doesn’t I think the website is broken but in this case I’ve seen screengrabs of my blog with pictures from a fellow WP member whilst looking at the broken “live” version on my own browser, which makes me kind of rule out WP as the culprit and turn next to sky and ask what they’ve done.
In this case I fear it’s been done on purpose and will be a pain to get resolved. I will be glad to be proved wrong. But that’s my basic newbie user perspective.

I think with the attention this has gotten here, it must be a HUGE issue. I’m sure Sky is hearing from a lot of people. It looks like they’ve got to change their settings to whitelist WordPress.com’s hosted files, otherwise they’ll piss off huge numbers of their customers and basically put themselves in a small group which includes some of the most repressive governments on Earth, who also block WP.com.
Tell Sky how you feel and how this has caused problems. After all, since CNN among others is hosted here, they are effectively blocking the free and well-respected press from publishing in their area.

-
The WP side of it is fine coming to think of it as I can get on my blog, post new etc. fine from where I am now. It’s when I get home I’ll have the problems. It is definitely an issue for Sky.
-
Does anyone have a phone number or email address that will get throught to the right people at Sky?
I think, as a few of you have said, the more we bombard them the sooner they will have to act (I hope, or it will have to mean a change of provider!)
-
Raincoaster are you sure about the CNN thing?
This works fine for me on Sky ISP

boofsbooks –
That’s what I want too,
I reckon an email to the senior tech ppl would be more effective than talking to a bod in a call centre.
“…. have you tried turning it off and on again sir?……………………..”
It’s always some business/politics/law that messes stuff up

Just put a complaint in – they are looking into it. He did say they were having issues with accessing some websites today. He said he was scaling it up to fault management level whatever that means.
