Photos disappearing from post

I wrote a post including photos with captions. Some of the photos are randomly missing when I publish. The comments for the missing photos are then appearing within the caption of the photo before it. So one photo has a really long caption that is really a combination of captions origianally inserted on multible photos that disappeared. I’ve redone the post 4 times and this has happened everytime when published. I’m so confused. Can you help? http://thelazydazy.wordpress.com/

My post has the exact same problem. The photo was there for a few days and then it just suddenly disappeared. But the caption is still there. http://www.bestaptsdfw.wordpress.com

There is only one post on there. It’s the first one that you see at the top, the only one. That’s another problem I’m having, btw……no one can add a post to my blog. There is no button that allows for it. No “new post” tab or anything.

bestaptsdfw: you deleted the image in that post (image 18) 3 days ago – that is why it is not showing up. You will need to re-upload the image on your post.

I never deleted the image. I haven’t touched it. But I will try re-uploading it again, and hopefully it will stay this time.

In fact, just now when I tried to re-load it, I went to “edit post”, and it’s showing that the picture is already still there. So, I hit “update post”, and it updated it, showing that the picture is still there. But then when I go to view it online, it ISNT there.

If you re-uploaded the image, wordpress will change the filename. Delete the image from your post and then find the new one that you uploaded and reinsert that one into your post.

Ok. I’ll try that. thank you. Can you also possibly help me with my other problem? i am trying to use my blog as a way for visitors to my website (I am an Apartment Locator) to post comments/reviews/ratings about the apartment complex where they live. But it seems that there is no way for visitors to post anything unless they are set up as an admin? Is that true? That seems strange to me since I thought the whole purpose of a blog was for anyone to be able to post comments. But when visitors go to my blog right now, there is no button that allows them to post. They can only comment on MY posts.

It worked to delete and then reload the picture. Thank you for solving that problem (I still wonder why it happened in the first place, tho). Hopefully it wont keep happening. But, anyway, I’m still having the other issue about allowing any visitors to be able to post….if you have any advice? I would like to be able to review the posts and approve them before they appear, though, if that is possible.

The image numbers that are not showing up in my post are 22, 15, 6, 24, 23, 26, and 25…they are suppose to appear in that order after image 13, which is there along with the comments for all the missing images. Image 16 and it’s comment are also missing further down the post.
I was trying to learn from bestaptsdfw’s problem above, but not sure I understand.

OK. I tried again and published the same post (Poison Cake?) again. It still has photos missing…but different the time before. It also appears that the posts are changing. I listed, in my comment above, several missing images from the post. Those are not the images missing. The post dated Sept. 2 now shows that image 24 or 27 (they are the same image…not sure which I used) holds the comments for missing image 23. The image 9 or 20 (also same and not sure which I used) holds the coment for missing image 16.
I can’t, for the life of me, figure out what I’m doing.

Since you do not identify the images by number in the posts, we can’t figure out which you’re talking about. It’s much easier if you link directly to the posts in question and say “the pic of the chocolate cake with Hugh Grant jumping out of it” and/or give us the direct link to the image in question, like:

In the post “Poison Cake?” http://thelazydazy.wordpress.com/2009/09/02/poison-cake/ the image of a cake pan with flour in it (the number 24 appears on it if you run the curser over it) contains the comment from an image that I had posted immediately following the one labeled 24, but it disappeared from the post. I don’t know how to link to the image because I can only find it when I go to the “add image” button and it’s there in the media library. When I insert it, it shows up on my new post, but disappears when I publish, leaving the comment with the comment of the previous image.
It seems to be random images that disappear when I redo the post. It’s not always the same one. The other image in this post that contains the comment from a missing image that I put after it is the photo that says “1/2 cup oil…” and has the number 20 when the curser runs over it.
I’m not sure how to supply information regarding the images that are not appearing in the post.
I’m ready to forget about it and just delete the post and move on, but I’d like to learn what I’m doing wrong.

You can find the URL of the image if you go to Edit the post and check the HTML tab.
I see that image just fine (floater text will not show up if the image is missing, so that info doesn’t help us if the image is missing).
I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong at all. If I had to hazard a guess, which I have to because I can’t see anything wrong with that post, I’d say either WP’s image servers were having issues OR there’s a problem somewhere on the internet between where you are and where the image servers are located.

thelazydazy, did you figure out why this was happening? I’m new to wp and can’t figure out why my photos are vanishing. It was there one time I hit publish, and then gone the next time. http://rowdyrhinos.wordpress.com. (The only post with pictures “first post”)
