Hi there,
I saw that you talked to a staff months ago regarding this issue. She mentioned that if you came across the issue again to note if there were any differences in what you did whn uploading the images that might’ve affected the results that you’re getting.
Are they still showing up horizontal on the iPad and vertical on your Macbook?
Let me know, thanks!

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I haven’t done anything different with these two recent posts. For “Celebrate Food” everything was fine until I changed the layout and suddenly several of the pictures displayed sideways on my Ipad (they look fine on my Macbook Pro). This morning I uploaded pictures fora new post and the same thing happened (sideways on Ipad, OK on Mac). Last time this happened, I checked all the pictures to make sure they were vertical and the moderator was able to do something. All the pictures I used on these two posts were vertical before I uploaded them. Thanks for your help! (it’s frustrating)

Apparently this is not a new issue and many people have encountered the same problem that you have. Have you had the same problems with sideways images no matter where you transfer them to (whether it was WordPress or some other platform?
I ask because based on what I researched, this is not a WordPress.com issue. It is an Apple issue:

https://wordpress.org/support/topic/image-rotation-issues-and-incorrect-mobile-browser-display
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/uploaded-photos-not-being-automatically-rotated-according-to-exif-data?replies=12Based off of what I read, even when you transfer the images to your desktop from your iPad, the same sideways issue occurs. Has that happened to you as well?
Unfortunately, what I have not found is a solution. I think that it is an ongoing issue that several people are trying to rectify.
What most people are doing, however, is transferring the images over to their desktop, make sure that they are in their proper orientation there before uploading them to WordPress.com from their Macbook. It is a lengthier process, but it will prevent the issue you are having.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!

Hi and thanks again for taking the time to advise me. All the images on my blog are properly oriented and uploaded from my Mac, not from my Ipad, so I can’t find any logical explanation even with the information you gave me. Why these two posts?
As I mentioned before, I did change the layout for one post on my ipad after initially uploading from Mac, but the newest one was done only on the Mac using properly oriented photos.
In answer to your question, this only happens to me on WordPress, no other platform. -
Were these photographs taken from an iphone / ipad?
Check the immediate answer.. the second post on this thread

Thank you for asking. no, they were taken on another camera, like all the photos I post. Then they were uploaded to my Macbook Pro and from there to WordPress. It’s just strange that they display horizontally on the two recent posts I mentioned and a few months ago on another post….

@alissterrell you may be facing these issues with photographs taken in “portrait” mode (holding camera sideways and taller picture).
I checked the turned photos appearing on your blog, and found that it has the same EXIF issue mentioned earlier.
I had similar issue with one of my client’s website. What i did was using rotate tool in my image editor, turned the image multiple times and then saved it. :)
You may also do this. Login to yourblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin .. go to Media .. and edit your image there to turn it and save it there. (for your existing images). Hope it works for you

You may want to use this tool to see if there are any EXIF orientation issues
When i checked it for the first image appearing sideways on your blog. the “Orientation” field showed “Rotated 90 CW”
-
Thank you, but how do I use this tool?
Yes, I have rotated many of the photos on my blog before uploading them. Only a few display sideways…doesn’t make sense.
-
-
The earlier tool was only for checking orientation.
Here is a detailed article that mentions how to fix it in Mac OSX. Doing a bit of reading myself, since even i have faced the issue.

Thank you, not trying to be complicated, but my camera doesn’t have autorotate, so that can’t be an issue. Also, why does the problem occur with a few pictures on isolated posts?
