Photos from Posts claiming their own page??
-
For the last two days I’ve noticed in the admin “Tops Posts & Pages” that pages have been hit that are not supposedly pages that I put out there. It seems that something is grabbing a photo (found with a search engine) and it’s being hit as if it were a post. Please see this page.

I also had the same happen yesterday here:

Neither of those are stand alone posts – but are photos within posts.
I haven’t changed anything, but somehow those are turning into pages on their own…when, in fact, they are photos within posts. Any idea what’s going on? Is this a wordpress problem?Help!

Hi Lela. I found this article on Panos’ blog and I think it might help you understand:
Uploading and inserting images: the three (plus one) link options

Thanks very much for that link. It helps a little…but what I don’t understand is why it’s just now starting to happen. I’ve never seen a photo opened in an ‘attachment page’ until yesterday & today… since I’ve not done anything different (to my knowledge) when uploading.
All of my uploaded photos are simply linked to a larger image. And even these two examples – in the posts – when clicked, go to a larger image – NOT the attachment page you see in the links above. It’s that part I don’t understand – I don’t even know how people hit them from a search engine. …but I sure would like to eliminate them.
Panos says, “They are automatically created, but they are not permanent.” Well, the bird seed cake is a fairly new post…but that Night Blooming Cereus was posted in Sept of 2009. See what I mean?
Any other ideas on how to get rid of them?
-
Oh!
And Panos also says the link status of an image can be changed by going to the visual editor. I can’t find the visual editor on the admin page.
Anyone know where it is?

See here> Check to make sure that the Visual Editor is not disabled in your user profile.
* Access your Personal Settings and uncheck the Disable the visual editor when writing option in the Personal Options section.

I should say…I know where the images are in the Media library. And I can see all the information about each one, but I just don’t see the tabs and edit buttons that Panos mentions in this link:

Okay, that didn’t help any. The reason is that the photos are already linked to the large files. That’s the part I don’t understand. Inside the post, when you click a photo, it goes to the large size. So how, exactly, are people landing on the so called ‘attachment pages’ of the photos?
-
Are they coming in by clicking the image in Google’s image cache?
http://tinyurl.com/67alugeI don’t have answer to your questions. We will have to wait for another Volunteer who knows more about image display than I do to reply to you.

I think you’ve got it figured out, timethief! How odd. So apparently there’s nothing that can be done about it.
I tested several searches that I thought would hit mine, and most of them hit the attachment page. There were a few, however, that took me to the posts. Strange.
Thanks! At least now I know how it’s happening. I knew I didn’t like that new image cache!
