photos in blog are invisible

  • Unknown's avatar

Please help! I am not doing anything different than I have been doing, but my photos are invisible in one post. This is driving me buggy.

I imported my blog. On some of the posts, I have deleted the photos and re-uploaded them. I have not any difficulty with this…until this post. What happens is that I get the new photos uploaded. I frame them, etc. and I can see them just fine in the edit window of the post. However, when I save it and then view the post, all I see is the title of the photo…but no picture. The frames are still there, but no picture. The picture hyperlink is still there so, if you click on the “picture”, it will come up in another screen, just as it should, but you simply cannot see it in the post itself!

When I go into edit mode, they show up again in the post just fine…but not outside of edit mode. I tried again this morning, but stopped after the first picture upload. You can see that it is not framed, or anything…just uploaded and inserted. It is invisible…all you see is the name of the file. I am not doing anything different than I have been doing.

I have also been posting new pictures in new posts…without any problems…but have not tried to do that since this editing difficulty. I assume that still works OK for me?

When I go into my Media Library, I see all the information for these invisible images…but no picture. Unlike the post, they hyperlink to the pictues are not there, either…not in the space where the picture should be. If I open the image edit box, the picture is not seen there, either.

I have no idea what I could possibly doing to cause this. Can someone please check into it?

    Thank you,
    Abigail

The specific post is here: http://littlervonthehillside.wordpress.com/2008/04/27/channeling-the-creek/ You can see the nonframed area and below it the other three…which are framed.

Can anyone else see these photos? Is it just me? I am only having this problem…that I know of…on this one post. Any suggestions?

I see no photos. I just see the links. It’s very late for me, too late for me to reliably sift through your code, but my suspicion is that there’s an anomaly in the coding. Have you looked at it in the HTML editor to make sure all your tags are closed, etc?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I see no pictures, either.

It has been my experience that when I can’t see the picture in the Media Library, something is wrong. So I delete the photo and reupload them.

Perhaps staff can comment on this. I did a quick look at your page source and didn’t see anything out of order.

Thank you, raincoaster. I am not real knowledeable about html code, but they all do appear to be closed to me. I did find some extraneous code left over from the blog import that should have disappeared when I deleted the first set of photos. Taking that out, however, did not do anything to help the pictures to show up again. :(

I am going to try gutting the picture html code, deleting the reference in the media library and reuploading again. Maybe that will help? It is odd to me that the images don’t show up even in the library, although the references do show up.

Thank you for looking at it for me! I appreciate that. Thought maybe I was just crazy! LOL

    Thank you, Vivian!

I have deleted and reuploaded the pictures more than once. This time, though, I am going to delete them via the html page…not just by clicking on the picture. (see post right before this one.) We will see if that makes any difference.

OK…that did not work. I am going to try gutting the post and saving it. Then I will delete the pictures from the library, reinsert the text and reupload the pics. I sure hope that works! I don’t know what else to do.

OK…nothing is working. I even tried uploading the same picture to a brand new post and it STILL won’t show up. You can click on the space where the picture is and it will come up, but the picture is invisible in the post. This is just plain bizarre. I am going to go back to the other blog I imported from and see if I can just lift the html code and copy it in.

OK…I restored it to where it was before, pulling the pictures off of my other blog instead of uploading them to WordPress.

I published a new post called “Invisible Picture Test” here: http://littlervonthehillside.wordpress.com/2008/11/14/invisible-picture-test/

The same problem exists. I will leave that post up because I sure hope that someone can figure out why these pictures won’t show the images in my library and are invisible, yet there, in my post.

It would be nice to have the pictures pulling from WordPress instead, but oh well.

Oh, and I also cleared my cache. No help there, either.

The problem is your originals. I tested them and there’s something wrong with them that prevents the uploader from downsizing them.

If you have an image editing application, make copies of your images and edit them in any way so that they’ll become something new (e.g. copy and re-paste one spot, save), then upload those copies.

The most useful editing would be reducing their resolution: 480 is unnecessarily large – you slow down page load and waste storing space. So if you’re not interested in linking to the full-size originals, just displaying them in the post, change the resolution to 150 or 200 and upload them in full size.

I’m curious: are those images identical to those in your other posts (same camera, same resolution, same storing or editing in your computer)? Can you think of anything that was different with them?

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you. I just got back to this. I have pictures from two cameras. There is nothing different about these pictures. They were uploaded into my blog elsewhere. When I imported the blog, everything came with it…no problem. The problem came when I stopped linking them from the old storage area and uploaded them directly into WordPress. That is something I have done with no problem with other pictures.

Tomorrow, I will try the suggestion of copying them and reuploading them. I don’t know how to reduce the resolution size other than to upload them as smaller pictures in the uploader.

There really wasn’t anything different about them. That is why I am so puzzled about this. I also notice that, although all previous versions of the pictures were deleted from WordPress, every time I would upload them, it would up the last number it adds to a picture name to show that it has already uploaded it previously. So, WP is obviously keeping track of the uploads even though the pictures are not there any more.

    – Do you have an image editing application?

    – I’m posting a comment in your test post; see how that goes and tell me.

  • Unknown's avatar

You can see the result in my test post. I have Picasa 2. Is that what you mean by an image editing application?

  • Unknown's avatar

As you saw, the edited copy of your image DOES show up. (I don’t know how you managed to distort its proportions, though.) So, as I said from the beginning, you must upload edited copies of these somehow corrupted originals (preferably in lower resolution).

Picasa is a photo organizer, with limited editing functions. You need an application with which you can manipulate images any way you like (e.g. Photoshop). For a free one you can try Gimp.

(But if your only problem is the remaining three pics, I can easily do it for you.)

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you. This is the only post in which I ran into problems. Let me try something first and I will get back to you if I need your help. I REALLY appreciate your trying to work with me on this!

  • Unknown's avatar

Hmm. About the distortion..the first picture that shows is a insert from the direct link to the url that you gave me. The second picture that shows up is one that I copied from the url to my pc and then uploaded. I don’t know why the direct link insert is so distorted.
