Photos not showing
-
I’ve linked to pictures in my widgets – the pictures are saved in my dropbox account. It works fine on the computer but if I check the website on my phone the photos don’t work. Any idea what’s happening? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I see only three widgets on your site: A search box, a Facebook widget, and a contact widget, all of them in the footer, and none of them containing any images. This is on the site you indicated in your post, http://clubhousekidsblog.wordpress.com/
Can you please point me to exactly where those images are on your site so I can take a look?
Also, unless your storage is close to running out (which it isn’t on that site), I’d recommend just uploading the images to the library rather than hotlinking them from Dropbox. Dropbox has bandwidth limits, which means if too many people visit your site Dropbox can start blocking images form loading completely. If your images are in the media library we have no such limit.
And while we do have limited image storage on WordPress.com, if you optimise your images before uploading them you can make even the free storage last for many years/thousands of images before you’ll need to upgrade. You can find a good post explaining image optimisation here:

Hello! Thanks for your help! It’s not the footer ones I’m having problems with but the images I’ve put with the halloween/fireworks/christmas text above it. Each one has an image embedded in the text which works fine on the computer but not on my phone. It only gives me the option of text input when I go to customise it so can’t see where I’d be able to use the media library even if I wanted to?! Would be much easier for me if I could do it that way though! Thanks :)

Ah, okay. Those images are not loading for me on my computer either, so it likely isn’t loading at all for many visitors to your site. This is most likely due to exactly how you got the link you’re using to hotlink from Dropbox – it could be that only you can see the images because you’re logged into Dropbox in the browser you’re using to view the site.
You’ll need to contact Dropbox support for help in getting the correct link that will work for anyone. I’ve tried searching for an answer in Google, but no two explanations I can find on how to make this work agree with each other :)
To use the media library instead, you can upload your images to the library directly here:
https://clubhousekidsblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
After doing that, click on the image in the library. You’ll need to copy the image URL as indicated in this screen shot:
https://cloudup.com/ciRMTCtqCLp
Then you use that link as the value for the src=” ” attribute in your text widget.
Let me know if you need more help with that.

It worked!! Thank you so so much. Was driving me mad. Don’t know why I didnt think to copy the url from the media library. Seems so simple now!
Also, is there a way to link the titles of those widgets. For example link TRICK OR TREAT to the Events menu page?
Thanks!
-
Not the widget titles, but you can add a link in the widget content using HTML. The HTML you need to create a hypelink is:
<a href="URL starting with http://">Text that will be clickable</a>You could try adding the HTML in the widget title, but I’d recommend adding a Read More or View Page link in the text area instead linking to the page where you want it to go.

Ah brilliant, that would be just as good. I’ve added the following:
But it just opens up the homepage again. Any ideas why it’s going wrong?
Sorry, so many questions!
-
Sorry that link didnt work. It’s like the above but without the space before events.
Thanks
-
oo, it’s annoying. The url in the link is https://clubhousekidsblog.wordpress.com/events but when it loads, it just reloads the homepage.
Does that make sense?
-
It looks like you made a typo: the link you added in the widgets show wordpess, instead of wordpress. And before you feel silly, it took me half an hour of digging to figure that out, so I reckon the both of us need glasses or something ;)
I updated the link in all three widgets and it’s working now.
-
Well. That’s embarrassing. I’m so sorry it took you half an hour. I’ll make sure I double check in the future!! Thank you for all your help :)
-
No need to feel sorry about it. My missing a detail is my own fault :)
It was my pleasure.
