Photos not showing up

    Hello,
    I’ve uploaded some photos and they’re not showing up either as individual images or in a gallery. I’ve searched the forums and although people have had similar problems I haven’t found a solution.
    Are the images too big (I did optimize them)? Would I be better off using Flikr? All help & comments welcome.

    Hi! The photos look to be showing up on that individual post page at:
    http://woolercameraclub.wordpress.com/2010/08/02/bolton-chapel/

    Your current theme, TwentyTen, displays excerpts on archive pages. This means that photos won’t display on an archive page like what you linked above. Some other themes, such as Contempt, will though.

    Thanks andrewspittle. I can see that but this makes me a bit confused. I thought I’d added something good my putting the categories at the side so people could see the different categories of photos, but that’s not going to work like that is it?

    I’ll have to have another play – would it be better as a page? If you’ve any suggestions I’d welcome then. Thanks again for your help, I know the images are there now.

    Custom excerpts and automatic shortening of posts are not the same.

    In TwentyTen, you are supposed to be able to make custom excerpts. The gallery shortcode won’t work in the custom excerpts, but you should be able to display pictures or pictures in tables, or formatted text.

    Right now, I think the custom excerpts in TwentyTen and some other themes, (in TwentyTen) are not working properly: page 1 of category or archive page works fine, but successive pages show whole posts on category and archive pages.

    By the way, categories are a great way to go for SEO; pages are not indexed by search engines as frequently as posts.

    Flikr would not work for galleries. They must be uploaded to your wp media library.
    Also images uploaded to your wp media library will be available more quickly than if the browser has to go over to filkr, get file, put on page for reader to view.

    @1tess I have been unable to reproduce the problem you mentioned with Twenty Ten and custom excerpts on page 2+ of category and archive pages. Do you by chance have a link where I can see that problem happening on your test blog?
