Photos on Ideation & Intent sidebar are no longer updating

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve been using the Ideation & Intent theme for a while now and I just realized that the sidebar which shows images from the last nine posts hasn’t been updating since the beginning of the year. I’m not sure if it’s because of the WP changes on the backend or what – the previous images are still there, but they aren’t getting replaced with newer ones.

When I go into the Dashboard, that sidebar isn’t listed, so I suppose it may be a question of that theme no longer being supported (which would make me sad, because I thought that was a great feature).

    Thanks for any help.

I just realized that the sidebar which shows images from the last nine posts hasn’t been updating since the beginning of the year…the previous images are still there, but they aren’t getting replaced with newer ones.

The Ideation & Intent support page says,

A custom Images sidebar has been built into Ideation & Intent. This sidebar will display images from the latest 9 posts that have image attachments. Up to 8 images will be displayed for each post and each image links directly to the post it is attached to.

Note that it only displays attached images. Are the images in your 2015 posts attached to the posts? Unattached images in the media library won’t display, though they may be embedded in posts.

When I go into the Dashboard, that sidebar isn’t listed, so I suppose it may be a question of that theme no longer being supported…

The Ideation & Intent theme is still supported. The images sidebar is “built into” the theme, and therefore not visible on the widgets page.

  • I’ve encountered this issue before. For some reason images from posts created in the new Beep Beep Boop editor won’t always show in the images sidebar. Go to your WP-Admin dashboard (http://macatthemovies.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) and click on Posts ->All Posts. Click Edit for each post in turn, and click the Update button in the post editor. I don’t if that will work, so also test with a new post.

When you create your next post, make sure you use the classic editor under Posts ->Add New in the WP-Admin dashboard. See here for all the workarounds to use the classic editor instead of the new one: http://git.io/wpcom-restore-classic-ed

If it still won’t appear even if you use the classic editor, and you’ve checked whether the images are attached to the post as @musicdoc1 said, let us know.

  • See here to check whether or not media files are attached to a post: https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/unattached-files/

I double checked and the photos were all attached. But updating each of the posts from the old editor did the trick. Thanks!

  • Glad to hear that :)

Thanks also on the workarounds to dodge the new editor. I’m glad to know that my reasons for hating it are justified beyond me just being a “grumpy old man”! lol :)

  • You’re welcome :D
