Photos rotating

rotating photos : I have always been able to rotate photos on my pc using windows MS Office and then load them to my blog with no issues. Lately, when I rotate using MS Office and then load them to my blog, they are all loading in their original orientation BEFORE I fixed them with MS Office.

When I go to edit photo in WP, I rotate it and it rotates straight back again !

  • After a very recent update, we now rotate the photos based on your original camera orientation, so you don’t have to rotate them prior to upload now.

I read all that information however my photos have already been rotated on my PC and once they are in WP i have tried using the dashboard EDIT / rotate function and even that wont fix it. I would like to be able to load my existing photos. How do i do this ?

  • Do the original (un-rotated) photos upload properly?

I have already rotated all the original photos ( that came off android phone and SLR ) to my PC to the correct alignment !! How do i now get them on the blog ????

  • Are you able to upload them properly, skipping the Microsoft Office step that you used to do?

I have CUT them off my camera and phone. They no longer exist there.
I have rotated them using MS Office on my PC and saved them.
I am trying to load to my blog and they are rotating back to the way they were when I took them.
I have tried using the WP dashboard to rotate them back again and whilst initially it does it, when i try to save it, it just flips back to the wrong view again.

In 7 years of blogging I have never had this issue. Only since WP introduced the new auto rotate feature.

This must be a glitch surely ????

  • Is this referring to the photos in the “Leakhana’s 30th Birthday bash” draft?

Yes Sir. And there are many other I want to add too but…..same issue.

BTW – I cannot actually see any photos in that draft when I went to look at it after your last comment.

  • Hm, that is odd. I didn’t remove them myself.

Please try inserting the images again. That may very well resolve the issue.

    hi
I have inserted just one photo as an example . On my PC it is the the right way up. Load it to my blog and hey presto….it gets rotated back to its original format i took it in.

The latest post on my blog is called Test Rotate.

I loaded a photo of my dog straight from my android ( it was taken with the phone on its side and was thus in need of rotating ) to Worpdpress and WP did indeed do all the work.

So I can what the new function with WP does and that’s great / handy etc

    However….

The photos you can see in my wife’s 30th draft post are actually being loaded from my PC to my WP blog in their original incorrectly orientated format ( due using phone on its side ) despite the fact I have actually fixed that orientation prior to loading to WP using “open with > MS Office 2010 “.

So how do i revert them on the PC ? or what do i need to do !

  • Ok, try rotating them in an actual image editor, not Microsoft Word, then give the upload a shot again.

So how do i do that given I have already saved all the images in the new orientation ?

  • Basically, I believe that Microsoft Word is not saving valid rotation values. After all, it’s a word processor, not an image editor.

You should be able to to open the photos as they are now in any image editor, rotate them correctly, re-save them, and try uploading again.
