Photos uploaded jump out of order when caption is added.
-
have tried to search support and the forums but didn’t find anything related so here is the problem I’m currently having:
When upload pictures into a post, say 10 of them, I place them in the order that I want, 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on. I then proceed to add caption to picture 7, say. After clicking “Update”, my picture 7 immediately jumps and appears between 2 and 3 instead. This happens EVERY TIME I add caption to any of my pictures, it would shift to some other order that I don’t want.
Can someone please help? Is it something that I’m doing?
I have used a variety of ways to post, Mac, PC, Windows Live Writer, Chrome, Firefox, plain WordPress uploading tool, etc., and it would happen every time.
Thanks.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble. Could you send me a link to a post where you’re coming across this problem? Within that post, please let me know which photo was moved and where it should appear.
Could you also let me know if you’re uploading your images from your computer, like in this guide?
-
@evarlese: It’s still a draft at this moment so I don’t have a post link. It happened before with other posts too.
I am uploading the images from my computer following exactly the guide in your link: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/. I would upload about 10 pictures, and click “Insert into Post” on each of them, all is well there. It is only when I go back to a photo and edit image to put a caption, then save, photo # 7 would immediately shifts and appears between photo # 2 and # 3 (this is only an example, but it could be photo # 9 or # 10 that I add caption in, and then that one would jump out of order too).
Thanks.

Okay, I’m looking at your draft post. It’s best for us to look at that post specifically so we can see what’s happening for you.
In that post, I see an image of two men as the third photo. Can you let me know which image you want to appear as the third photo?
When adding the captions, are you clicking on the Edit Image button and inserting the text into the box next to Caption?
-
The third image of the men is fine. I just did a test to the 7th photo (added caption “The newly weds paying respects to ancestors” and saved) and that one jumped to be the 4th one after men’s picture, which is the wrong order. It is the photo of the couple bowing.
That is exactly what I am doing, I click on the Edit Image button and typing in the caption. I am not using any code, nor any other uploading tool, all in WordPress browser.
If you can see my draft, please feel free to perform a test yourself and add caption to any image (note its original order first) and see if it jumps for you.
-
Can you tell me the title of the draft you’re working on?
I have a feeling that it’s just the added size from the caption that’s shuffling the images around relative to the surrounding text.
-
staff-blorbo, I have not added any text, just photos and caption. The title is “Be’s wedding, part 1”.
Again, my process is, create new post, click “Upload/Insert”, then upload about 10-12 photos, insert each one by one. Then save draft, then add caption, and the photos jump when caption is added.
-
Do you have any luck if you add an extra line break between the photos?
Also, if it’s just a collection of photos, have you tried a gallery instead?
-
Thanks, macmanx, but I do not like the look of galleries, just a personal preference. I also prefer not to have a line break between photos (since I have a lot of photos and do not want my post to be too long). Is there another fix?
-
If you do not include a line break, they will attempt to line up next to each other, thus causing trouble when they aren’t exactly the same size due to the captions.
In this instance, I definitely recommend adding the line breaks.

Thanks for your answer.
I do have one more caption related question please. In the same post, I go to “Upload/Insert” and then to the “Gallery” tab of the pop up where I add caption for most of the photos there and click “Save all changes”. The caption do not appear when I go back to my post. Any ideas?

You’ll have to actually re-insert the photo after adding the caption that way.
If the image is already inserted, you can add a caption following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-settings/#within-posts
