Photos uploaded to a private blog not private
-
I’ve noticed that even though I have a private blog, if *anyone* types in the URL to the photo, they can see the photo. I would have thought that it would have been under the same “privacy” as my blog. Why is it not? And is there a way to fix this?
And since uploads are viewable in this way, then what is to stop search engines from searching them out and listing them, even though your blog is listed as private?

There is no way to obtain the URL of the photo unless you give it to someone or the person is authorized to see the post. Even search engines cannot see them, because search engines cannot read private blogs.

Are you sure that the search engines cannot see them? The reason that I wonder is because if someone is logged out and tries to view the blog you get the “have to log in page” but on the photo pages you do not. Because of that fact, I wonder how they can let them be viewable by anyone like that, and then not let the search engines scan them???
I’d love to see what WordPress has to say about this. It might be fine, but it certainly looks worrisome. -
Search engines won’t index them (and users won’t find them) because they don’t know the URL.
It’s currently not feasible to block access to files on private blogs because of the way files are served up from caching servers and CDNs.
