Photostream feed
-
What is the best way to add a photostream feed to my private wordpress.com blog – I can use flickr widget but from what I understand the photos need to be made public. Is there any way that private photos can be streamed to my blog. I basically want to keep all my photos & all my posts only viewable for friends & family. Thanks

Hi there,
As a general rule, the way that photos are shared is that they are pulled from a site via some sort of service, such as an RSS feed or even scraped off of the actual website.
If the site which is hosting the images has been made private, then there is no way for the images to be retrieved automatically. You can still upload your images directly to WordPress.com, where they can be locked down and shown only to friends and family, of course!

Thanks mate, makes sense. I was trying to suss out what the easiest way is to showcase pix, as we are about to embark on a 6 month trip with the kids and expect to be uploading heaps on the go so the rest of the family can keep track with what we’re up to, thought it’d be nic ero just stream the pics. I gues I could create a gallery in WP n just upload new pix into that gallery? Sorry very new at this stuff.

That’s totally fine! Everyone is new at some point!
You can indeed create galleries here at WordPress and upload there. We have smartphone and tablet apps which you can upload using if you so desire, so that might help as well.

Thanks mate, sorry one last question, off the top of your head is there a theme that you know of that lets you put a gallery as thumbnails in a sidebar next to a post. I’m using oxygen at the mo, and have put a text widget on side that is linked to a gallery I’ve created but of course this gallery is the same for each post, would be nice if I could tie a gallery to each post. Cheers

Sorry, let me see if I understand what you’re asking for!
You would like to have all of your text on one side of the screen, say the left, and then on the right, you’d like to have thumbnails of your gallery which the post is about?
I don’t believe there are any which layout posts like that. Most blogs are very vertical. So it’s usually the text and then the gallery. Or text then gallery and then more text. However you’d like to lay it out, but it’s all in a stream.
Let me know if that’s what you were thinking and I’ll see what I can find!

G’day, I am getting there :-) what I was looking for is something like the Flickr widget but set up from within WP so that it didn’t require an outside feed and thereby public pix, if that makes sense. I’m happy now with my posts and how the are laid out and the galleries in them are sweet, so thank you for that. Now I was hoping to have a permanent area on right that showed all the latest pics I had uploaded, without those pics actually being part of a post – like the Flickr widget actually lol.

Hi there,
Unfortunately there really aren’t any widgets which display the most recently uploaded images. You can add image widgets or a text widget that displays them from your media library, but that’s just about it.
