PHP and server updates
-
To whom it may concern,
I am debating whether or not to upgrade my PHP. We currently have a PHP of 5.9. Additionally, my hosting site, GoDaddy, insists on my company upgrading to a new server to support a PHP of 7 or higher, claiming that certain plugins will not work with the older server. Can anyone validate these two statements? Should my company upgrade our PHP? I read online that as long as you have above a PHP of 5.5, you should be fine as far as security is concerned. However, our website recently got hacked (we have since fixed it and installed WordFense). Any thoughts on the server upgrade, or is that a sales scheme? Thanks!
my hosting server with GoDaddy. According to GoDaddy, we should upgrade our plan to a new server because our PHP does not (or soon will not) support certain WordPress plugins.
